Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both views outlined in the prompt (reasons for travel/work versus other reasons) and offers a basic opinion that learning a language has multiple benefits. However, the development of ideas is severely hindered by significant expression issues. Many arguments, such as the mention of night-duty workers and MNC recruitment, are introduced abruptly without clear elaboration. The student touches upon travel, higher education, and communicating with clients, but the underlying positions are often muddled by broken syntax. While the prompt is partially addressed, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, aligning closely with a Band 5 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs beginning with transition phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently broken. Paragraphs contain sprawling, run-on sentences that make it difficult to follow the flow of thought. Cohesive devices such as 'weather' (instead of whether) and repetitive phrases like 'Most of the people say' are misused or mechanical. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard to determine which pronouns refer to which nouns. Overall organization is attempted, but cohesion is heavily faulty, justifying a Band 4.0 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. Throughout the response, the student relies on elementary phrases such as 'learning a foreign language', 'foreign country', and 'different foreign language'. There are numerous word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'weather' for whether, 'recurting' for recruiting, 'geeting' for getting, 'resturants' for restaurants, and 'obsuetly' for obviously. These errors and the extremely limited range of less common lexical items restrict the vocabulary to a Band 4.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay. The text consists largely of massive run-on sentences joined by commas rather than proper punctuation or conjunctions (e.g., 'while some individuals travel various places at the time foreign language was useful, other some citizens can work...'). There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the people are learn'), and word forms. Complex structures are attempted through clauses like 'while sending, receiving orders communicate...', but they are structurally broken and frequently impede comprehension. This falls under the Band 4 descriptor.
