Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is oftern argued that, the uses of non-native language are to go overseas for the employment opportunies and to travel all around the world. On the other hand, some may belive there are other reasons for learning a language to do as a hobby. In my perspective, it won't be a harm in studying an extra language other than mother tongue.
Firstly, studing a foreign language seems a bit hard to grasp as this involves various difficult terms, pronounciation and slangs etc. However, if a person needs to grab the oppotunity in global career markert, he / she required to pursue of studing that country's particular language. This will bring numerous advantages such as the abilty to take the leadership by influencing the workpalce collegues by sharing our own thoughts, to get to know about what is going on in the office in case if something happened due to internal politics, and paving the pathway to climb the career ladder in an aborad work environment by fullifing all the duties in a master way. Not only that but also, it would be easier to travel for one's desired destination and survive in that country. For an example, Japan is a country where it uses only their mother tongue and it is very rare they are using the the language of English to communicate.Thefore, if tourists learn their basics of the japanese language they would be able to get the maximum benifit of that travel.
On the other hand, there are some people who often engaged in learng other country's lanuages as thier hobby. They are showing the interest in learning that particular country's culture along with the language. it is a better way to spend the spare time by being actve on learng a foreign language.
In conclusion, it would be better to learn an extra lanuage as today we are living in a globalized era. There would be instances where we happen to come across to engage with foreign communities such as for travelling and for work purposes. Hence, I belive that learning a foreign language brings more benifits in building profiecsional and person's attributes by being a valuable asset to the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the view that foreign languages are solely for travel and work, acknowledging alternative reasons like hobbies, and presenting a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations, such as the example of Japan for travel and career advancement for employment. However, some arguments, particularly regarding workplace politics, are slightly under-developed or tangential, and the conclusion could be more robustly tied back to the prompt. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 based on the balance of development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is generally coherent with a clear overall structure, including a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in awkward linking phrases like 'Not only that but also' and some abrupt shifts between sentences. Paragraph development shows a logical flow, but the relationships between ideas within paragraphs could be managed more smoothly, placing it securely in the Band 6 range.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'globalized era', 'internal politics', and 'career ladder'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'oftern' instead of 'often', 'oppotunity', 'markert', 'collegues', 'workpalce', 'aborad', 'fullifing', 'Thefore', 'benifit', 'learng', 'actve', 'lanuage', 'belive', and 'profiecsional'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 6.0, placing this response at Band 5.5 due to the cumulative impact of lexical inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures (e.g., 'However, if a person needs to grab the oppotunity...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'he / she required to pursue of studing', 'it won't be a harm', 'where it uses only their mother tongue', and 'we happen to come across to engage with'. Punctuation is also faulty in places, such as unnecessary commas splitting subjects and verbs ('It is oftern argued that, the uses...'). These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar at a Band 5.5 level.
