IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people seem to be arguing about the main benefit of acuring the skill of speaking foreign language where some express it is only required in order to travel or for employment purpose in the designated countries whereas other argue that language is crucial inorder to establish a proper relationship with the people around,to study the environment and also required to be upto date with the information circulating around the specific country.I beleive the advantages of speaking foreign is far more than just being aid while travelling or work.

First and foremost,Language is one the greatest fundamental skill which is obtained by human.Language is the medium through which communication takes place.Skill of speaking foreign language aids you with building strong ties with people around which can turn out to be a great aid in necessary situations.Learning a language of a particular country benefits both the speaker and the listener as in foreign countries it's people tend to speak their own languageonly which makes learning the language a significant step in order to properly communicate with the local people of the country.For instance:A survey conducted by the University of Greenchilly of UK showed that students who had learned the language of the country they are going to pursue their studies had far less difficulties in the early months of living than that of students with no knowledge of the foreign language.

Despite this vast advantages,Different individuals still insist that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel and work which is not totally a deniable statement.Moast students or youth who wish to work or study in foreign countries in the future actually keep these two things as the top reason to learn the foreign language which is intially true in the early stages of leaning the language but as the individual aquires more skill knowledge and expereince as he grows,the realization of actual use of the foreign language also tend to grow with the person.

Lastly,In my perspective learning skill is not just for work or to travel but it is a vital tool which will help the person in the overall development as having a skill of speaking foreign language makes that individual an reliable,dependent personality.It also helps the person to aquire vast knowledge out of his homeland which is sure to benefit him in his upcomimg days.

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'fundamental skill', 'overall development', and 'reliable, dependent personality'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'acuring' instead of acquiring, 'inorder', 'beleive', 'upto', 'Moast', 'intially', and 'aquiries'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. However, frequent grammatical and punctuation errors occur, such as missing spaces after punctuation marks, capitalization issues, run-on sentences, and minor subject-verb agreement slips (e.g., 'it's people tend to speak', 'learning skill is not just').
