IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The unparallel significance of learning a foreign language for travel or work in a foreign country cannot be denied. Some people believe that learning a foreign language is tremendously indispensable for the people who wants to travel or to work in a foreign country. Some people say that learning a foreign language never be the only reason to travel or work. According to my perspective, both are valid points and its totally vary from person to person. Now a days people learn foreign language just to go out of the country.
On the one hand, people who believe that learning a foreign language always have two reasons. First one is to go out just to travel and the second one is to work over there. For instance, a student who just done their bachelor in any degree and he wish to learn any foreign language. So mostly their main goal is just to go out of country for work or to travel because most of my classmates done the same thing.
On the second hand, people who decline the perspective of first type of people. They think that work or travel is not only the main reason of learning foreign language. For instance, a person is obsessed with learning multiple languages just to upgrade yourself or to showcase their potential.
In conclusion, travelling and working abroad are strong motivations for learning a foreign language, but language learning offers many wider educational, cultural and personal benefits. Therefore, people can gain significant advantages from learning another language even if they never use it abroad.
