IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued by some people that learning foreign language is important only to travel or work in foreign country. Meanwhile, others believe that this is not only the reason to learn a foreign language. However, I believe that learning foreign language has only one perpose that is to travel or work in such country.
On the one hand, supporters of the argument that learning foreign language is important for travel or work in that country believes that learning a specific country's language is only to works in that country. As if you want to go in this country for any tour or any working perpose. For example, a survey conducted in the France, which concluded that the 70% of people from all over the world learn french to work in France. Thus, the supporters of this argument drawback their analysis with valid arguments.
On the other hand, advocates of the view that a foreign language also have other perposes believes that many people learn other languages without reason. As some people are interested in learning other languages. For instance, Jones Andrew, the education minister of China says that 20% of chineses are interested in leaning the other languages, but they are not interested to visit other countries. Hence, the supporters of this argument also have valid reasons.
However, I believe that learning foreign language is important only to travel or work in that country. As this can help you to communicate easily with clients.
To sum up, the second argument also carry a lot of weightage, but I believe that learning foreign language is only important to travel this country.
