IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that some individuals believe that learning a foreing langugae is required to travel and work abroad while others assume that this is not only the cause behind learning a non-native language.I firmly believe that there are multiple reasons that people learn foreign language it is not only restricted to ease in travelling and doing work in foreign country.
Learning a foreign language is crucial part in this contemporary society. In most part of the world people communicate in English. It has become the everyday mode of communication in many countries. In foreign countries a lot of work places constitue of people with different backgrounds and culture, and most of the time they have to encounter with the people of english or freinch speaking country. So it is neccessary the members of the society should learn atleast 2 to 3 foreign language so they can easily understand eachother perspectives. For example like United kingdom is a country of immigrants so it isnot possible to communicate with everyone with their native language.
On the other hand, some people state that learning a foreign langugae is not only required for working and travelling, As in high school it is also important for understanding literature as numerous books are usually written in english language.Moreover most of the people used streaming services for instance NetFlix, Youtube for the entertainmnet purpose that composed of english movies. in order to enjoy and comprehend it is necessary that one should be familar with the language.Additionally people also learn language as in most part of the world it is essential to learn their native language to get permenant residency.
For example , in germany most of the courses are in german and also for the permenat residency it is required that one should have good command on german language.
In conclusion, Learning foreign language is important for travelling and working abroad,but it also include other factors,from entertainmnet purposes, reading books to getting country's residency. I believe that it is important to learn foreign to be consider the part of ongoing activities in this modern world.
