Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views—that foreign languages are learned solely for travel and work, and that there are other reasons—along with a personal opinion. However, the development of these ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on work and travel relies on repetitive points about speaking and facing difficulties without deeper elaboration or precise examples. Similarly, the second viewpoint concerning knowledge and culture is introduced with general statements like 'many people are interested in other country language they easily read about other nations culture' rather than fully extended arguments. The position is discernible throughout the text, but the limited depth of support places the response at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, yet there is no clear overall progression of ideas from one paragraph to the next. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal structuring is weak. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, such as the repetitive use of formulaic transitional phrases like 'To commence', 'To explain', and 'For example' which fail to connect sentences smoothly. Furthermore, referencing is often unclear, as seen in the phrase 'because they help in speakin and they easily talk to other people' where the pronoun antecedent is ambiguous. Overall, the flow is mechanical and repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There is frequent repetition of basic words and phrases, such as 'foreing language', 'work and travel', and 'improve knowlege'. Noticeable spelling errors ('foreing' instead of foreign, 'knowlege', 'permanantaly', 'problrems') and word choice inaccuracies are present throughout the text. These errors often stem from basic lexical control issues. While the reader can generally grasp the intended meaning, the restricted range of vocabulary and frequent lexical slips cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher mark.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The essay exhibits a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, featuring missing verbs, incorrect relative clauses, and poor subordination, such as 'some people do enjoy to learn foreing language and interested in becausethey they went to improve language skill'. Frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and articles are present throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage (e.g., 'travels in abroad', 'issues in wor'). These frequent grammatical errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and highlight a lack of control over complex grammatical patterns.
