Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals hold onto the opinion that the main purpose of learning a foreign language is for work or travel reasons to a foreign country. While some believe that these are not the only causes to learn a foreign language.
Cultural exchange and understanding forms an integral part of bringing unity and peaceful coexistence between people of diverse cultures. This can mostly be achieved by learning other people's language hence bringing forth a better understanding of there norms, beliefs and way of life through interaction by language. Moreover, through learning different languages,it has brought a boost to trade hence improved livelihoods for most people because there will be no more language barrier between traders hence boosting transactions and in the end improving economies.
On the other hand, this has been used solely for travel and work reasons. An example is countries such as Germany,German language knowledge is a pre-requisite in order for one to be part of the society since most members of the country are only conversant with that specific language.Lots of individuals have reported experiencing language barrir whenever they are out for travel in some countries.Hence they are forced to learn the specific language in order to fit in to such countries.Others have reported being seen as intruders because of this issue, they are treated badly and re unwelcomed in some countries because of speaking a different dialect.
In my opinion, learning a laguage should be considered not only for travel and work reasons but for the other immense benefits it has.It should be viewed as a platform to open doors and opportunities,as a unifying factor and also as a form of increasong one's knowledge of our world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
For this criterion, you successfully address all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that learning languages is strictly for work and travel, and that there are broader cultural and economic reasons—while also presenting a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. Your ideas are relevant throughout the response, such as mentioning cultural exchange, trade benefits, and societal integration in countries like Germany. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or lack full support, which keeps the response at this level. To reach higher bands, you need to extend and fully support all of your main arguments with more detailed explanations or concrete examples rather than moving quickly from one point to the next.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
You provide a coherent overall arrangement for your essay, dividing your thoughts into distinct paragraphs for introduction, cultural/economic benefits, travel/work reasons, and your personal conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical due to missing spaces after punctuation marks and repetitive transitional phrases. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun reference in 'On the other hand, this has been used solely...', where the exact antecedent is ambiguous. To improve, ensure you use cohesive devices more flexibly and naturally, maintain consistent spacing and formatting, and clearly signal the logical progression between your body paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'pre-requisite', 'conversant', 'intruders', and 'coexistence'. While these attempts show ambition, there are some word-choice and spelling errors that occasionally surface, such as writing 'barrir' instead of barrier, 're unwelcomed' instead of are unwelcomed, and 'increasong' instead of increasing. Furthermore, some collocations could be more precise. To move to a higher band, you should expand your use of less common lexical items with greater precision in spelling, word form, and collocation while avoiding repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. You attempt complex clauses with words like 'in order that', 'since', and 'whenever'. However, there are noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly a frequent lack of spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'country. While', 'languages,it', 'barrir whenever'), subject-verb agreement issues such as 'Cultural exchange and understanding forms' (which should be 'form'), and prepositional errors like 'travel reasons to a foreign country'. These errors reflect a limitation in accurate complex sentence production, though they rarely impede overall communication.
