Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, as it contains only 162 words, which severely restricts the development of ideas. While the writer attempts to discuss the reasons for learning a foreign language, the response only partially addresses the task. The position is not always clear, and the ideas presented are extremely limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of family issues, health issues, and money issues lacks any elaboration or connection to the broader prompt about travelling or working abroad. The arguments regarding workers and servers are fragmented and difficult to follow, reflecting an approach that responds to the task only minimally and fails to fully explore both views and give a well-supported personal opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is some organisation attempted, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. The essay suffers from a lack of logical sequencing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with abrupt transitions between ideas, such as moving from student motivations directly to family issues without appropriate linking devices. Cohesive devices are either inadequate, inaccurate, or over-used, leading to a repetitive and disjointed structure. For example, transitional phrases like 'So they depend on their conditions' and 'Therefore, duties are not equal to others' fail to establish a clear logical connection between sentences. Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear, as seen in phrases like 'Peole in other countries got their language to learn easy of that humans who say that to get our achievemnts', which obscures the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range that struggles to convey precise meaning. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and strain comprehension. Examples include 'under developed' instead of developing countries, 'beacause' instead of because, 'isuues' instead of issues, and 'lnguage' instead of language. The writer attempts some less common items, but these are often used inaccurately or inappropriately, such as 'Little quantity of humans' instead of a small number of people, or 'great valuabe life'. While the range is minimally adequate to touch upon the topic, the frequency of lexical errors prevents the response from achieving a higher level of precision and stylistic awareness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammar and sentence structure display a very limited range, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside attempts at complex structures that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. For instance, the opening sentence 'learning language is mostly popular in the students' contains prepositional and article errors. Other grammatical lapses include 'Everyone had never same resposibilites' and 'The workers which works as a servernts'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and awkward clumping of clauses. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader in parsing the intended meaning, reflecting basic structural control.
