Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially and has not reached the required minimum length, stopping abruptly at two hundred and thirty words. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding foreign language learning and mentions a personal opinion in the introduction, the ideas are heavily limited and under-developed. For instance, the point about India having twenty-six states with different languages is unclear and lacks proper explanation in relation to the prompt. The conclusion is also incomplete, which prevents the response from fully exploring all parts of the task in a well-supported manner.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident through basic paragraphing and transition signals such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', but there is no clear overall progression throughout the text. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, as seen in the repeated phrasing 'learning a foreign language' and mechanical sentence links. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the abrupt ending prevents the essay from maintaining a logical flow to a proper conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal development within paragraphs lacks a smooth, cohesive thread.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas related to the topic. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'foregin' instead of foreign, 'eassy' instead of essay, and 'clinets' instead of clients. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'opportunities' and 'understanding', but these are accompanied by recurring lexical slips and awkward collocations, such as 'speaking language' instead of spoken language or 'speaking german language'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, articles, plurals, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'learning a different languages helps', 'some individuals believes', and 'doesnot means'. Additionally, punctuation and prepositions inside grammatical patterns are often mishandled, as in 'travelling to abroad' and 'sector of work were dealing'. These frequent errors place a strain on the reader and reflect limited control over grammar.
