Student answer (Band 5.0)

In our world we have many counties with different languages and its always a discussion point that learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country and some people having an opnion that there are more other reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.

People are in different countries really want to travel other countries in the world and if they dont know the local language of that country where they traveled would be very difficult to communicate or understand their needs, people who love to travel other countries they usally learn basic of different languages to make their communication easy and if you want to work in different countries which speaking other then their own language, so its very difficult to success in some working sector such as sales, so its very important to know the local language.

Other side those people think that its now only learning other then your own language is not only useful for traveling and working other countries, its good for knowladge and education also, as per the resurch people who speak multiple languages are more sharper and confident than others they really good to communicate.

As i am also working in foreign country, i have my example, i am working in hotel reception and different counties guest visit and stayed in our hotel and when some guest does not know English which is common language, its become very difficult to understand their needs and help them, sometimes we used mobile phones to translate and understand their needs.

Now our management start language courses for us to learn and after that we have devoloped our language skils and feel more confident.

I am truelly with first opinion as its really important to know at least basic foreign language where you travel or work.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on why people learn foreign languages and provides a personal opinion, satisfying the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the discussion on traveling and working abroad relies on general assertions without deep extension or varied supporting examples. The position is stated, particularly in the conclusion where the writer sides with the first view, but the overall progression of ideas feels constrained. To move to a higher band, the response would need to explore both perspectives with more fully developed arguments and richer, more specific examples rather than resting on simple statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic logical layout to the essay, dividing the introduction, body points, and conclusion into distinct paragraphs. However, overall progression is hindered by very long, run-on sentences that link multiple independent clauses with conjunctions like 'and' rather than using clear subordination or full stops. Cohesive devices are used in a limited and repetitive manner, such as 'Other side those people think' and 'As i am also working'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the paragraphs lacks fluency and control. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure that sentences are punctuated properly and that ideas flow from one to the next using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive tools.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic concepts about traveling, working, and learning languages. However, the range is narrow and features frequent spelling and word choice errors, such as 'counties' instead of countries, 'opnion', 'knowladge', 'resurch', 'sharper' (instead of sharper-minded or more alert), and 'devoloped'. There are also awkward collocations and word forms like 'speaking other then their own language' and 'other then your own language'. These noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited lexical repertoire. Expanding word knowledge and paying closer attention to word forms and spelling would significantly improve this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is quite limited, relying heavily on strings of simple clauses joined by coordinating conjunctions, leading to heavy run-on sentences like the opening sentence of the response. When the writer attempts more complex structures, they are frequently faulty, characterized by missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and structural confusion, such as in 'people who love to travel other countries they usally learn basic of different languages'. Frequent errors in articles, verb tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement persist throughout the text and cause strain for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to practice forming accurate simple and complex sentences with correct punctuation and foundational grammatical structures.
