Student answer (Band 5.0)

To learn any foreign language it depends upon the person's choice or thier requirements. We have our native language like Urdu,English. etc. We have grip on our native language. While to learn new language it has been challenging task for anyone either thier intention is for moving abroad or just for as hobby. We will discuss both toughts related learning of foreign languages.

Let talk about the people opinion who say the reason of learning foreign language for travel or work in other country. Now a days mostly people are so busy in there work, family life, social life etc they hardly have to get a chance to do new activities like learning new languages. Only people learn new foreign language when they need to travel for work, for recreational activities and for study purposes. We only able to get a chance of time when any task is on urgent basis. So it is solid reason for learn new foreign languages.

The second people opinion is that why we need to learn foreign language only if we need to travel or anything. This is true for only those people who spend time on thier hobbies. There are very littele number of people who have hobby of learning new languages so they spend time and desperately they learn new foreign languages. Other reason for learning foreign language beside travel or work is for Journelists which needs to report and be informed with all over the World. They needs to learn language to remain up to date with correct information.

In conlcusion i must say that the most trends for learning foreign languages are related with mostly travel or work in foreign country. The best example is myself i do ielts test because i want to explore innovative study in foreign univeristies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding the reasons for learning a foreign language and provides a personal opinion in the conclusion, the ideas are quite limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on why people learn languages for travel or work jumps between points without deep elaboration. Similarly, the argument regarding journalists or hobbies is superficial and lacks clear support or specific examples beyond a brief mention. The position is stated, but the overall development remains basic, and some points tend to over-generalize the reasons without offering a comprehensive exploration of the prompt's nuances.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation in the essay, with distinct paragraphs attempting to introduce, discuss, and conclude the topic, but there is no clear overall progression throughout. The transitions between sentences and paragraphs feel mechanical or disjointed, such as moving abruptly from the introduction into 'Let talk about the people opinion'. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic linkers like 'The second people opinion' and 'Other reason'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it harder for the reader to follow the logical flow of arguments smoothly from one idea to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer uses basic terms repeatedly, such as 'learning foreign language', 'travel or work', and 'people'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, including 'thier requirements', 'We have grip on', 'toughts related learning', 'littele number', and 'Journelists'. Spelling errors like 'thier', 'toughts', 'littele', 'Journelists', and 'conlcusion' occur throughout the text. These errors and the restricted vocabulary range cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher level of lexical precision and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few awkward attempts at complex forms. Frequent grammatical errors are present across the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Journelists which needs', 'They needs'), missing articles (e.g., 'is for Journelists', 'do ielts test'), incorrect prepositions, and faulty verb tenses (e.g., 'We only able to get', 'i do ielts test because i want'). Punctuation is also problematic in places, such as missing apostrophes and run-on phrasing. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader when trying to parse the intended meaning.
