Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially and presents a position that is not always entirely clear due to limited development. While both views are acknowledged and a personal opinion is briefly stated in the introduction, the ideas remain somewhat restricted and under-developed. For example, when discussing travel and work, the writer mentions that tourists face trouble and job interviews result in rejection, but these points lack extension and concrete supporting evidence. Similarly, the argument regarding self-confidence and higher studies in the third paragraph is generalized and lacks depth. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to present a fully developed position with well-supported ideas and clearer explanations for both perspectives.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding remark, but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, yet the internal flow of ideas is frequently disrupted by mechanical or inadequate cohesive devices. Phrases like 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' are used to signal transitions, but referencing and logical connections between sentences are often unclear, as seen in the transition from discussing tourists to multinational job fields in the second paragraph. To achieve a higher score, the writer must ensure a more logical progression of ideas within and between paragraphs, using a wider range of cohesive devices more accurately and naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common lexical items, but this results in noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'asert' instead of assert, 'lanuguage' instead of language, 'travelist' instead of traveler, and 'aboust' instead of about. Spelling and morphological errors occur frequently throughout the text, for instance, 'communuicate', 'circumtances', 'consquence', and 'requiremenrts'. These inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve lexical resource, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, pay closer attention to word formation and spelling, and use more precise terms appropriate for an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or attempted complex forms that are often faulty. Frequent grammatical errors are present across the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, prepositions, and punctuation. Examples include 'learning second language is' lacking an article, 'in abroad' instead of abroad, 'in communicate' instead of in communicating, and capitalization and punctuation errors such as 'i' instead of 'I'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy, ensuring better control over basic grammar and punctuation rules.
