Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially, and importantly, it fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 206 words instead of the required 250. The writer mentions the two views and gives a brief personal opinion, but the ideas remain very limited and under-developed. For instance, the points about travel and trade are stated simply without adequate elaboration or specific examples. The position is also not always clear throughout the response, as the arguments jump quickly between different aspects without sufficient depth or supporting evidence, reflecting the characteristics of this band level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation in the essay, with attempts to separate ideas into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used very minimally and sometimes inaccurately, such as the abrupt transitions between paragraphs like 'However language also play' and 'Another aspect of language that it helps'. Referencing and logical connections between sentences are frequently unclear, making the flow disjointed. While paragraphing is attempted, the overall arrangement lacks the structural progression required to guide the reader smoothly through a fully developed argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited in range, though minimally adequate for expressing basic thoughts. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as incorrect word forms ('Foreign language make your thinking broader', 'benfit', 'litrature'), spelling mistakes ('hurdel', 'increas'), and imprecise word choices ('trade get boom'). These errors can occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some slightly less common vocabulary, but lacks the control needed to use them accurately, restricting the lexical score to this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical structures used are heavily restricted to simple sentences, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, such as 'Learning foreign language is an art', 'language also play a vital roale', and 'In the result, trade get boom'. Punctuation is also erratic in places, such as missing spaces after full stops. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a limited range of grammatical control.
