Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that learning a language is solely for work and travel, and that other reasons exist—while offering a personal opinion. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on why people learn languages for better knowledge or communication with foreign citizens in the second body paragraph relies on repetitive points and lacks specific, well-supported examples. The writer's position is discernible, but the overall development is constrained, meaning some parts of the prompt are addressed only partially.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion appropriately. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'to commence with', 'on the other hand', and 'in conclusion', which help structure the essay. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in vague pronoun usage like 'it also have many other factors'. While information is generally grouped logically, the overall progression can feel disjointed due to repetitive phrasing and basic linking mechanisms.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic meaning of the arguments. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form throughout the text, such as 'modren', 'amoug', 'numerious', 'individiuals', 'coustomers', 'habbits', and 'mora'. These lexical and orthographic errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted range of vocabulary that falls short of successfully incorporating precise or less common lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay presents a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns with frequent attempts at complex sentences that are often faulty. There are notable grammatical errors regarding subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'learning foreign languages have become', 'it also have many other factors', 'advocates of first view argued', and 'i would argued'. Furthermore, issues with articles and prepositions persist throughout the text, generating frequent errors that can cause difficulty and strain comprehension for the reader.
