Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 68 words. Consequently, the task is addressed only minimally. While the introduction attempts to outline both views and mention a personal opinion, the body paragraph cuts off before fully developing any ideas or exploring the second view requested by the prompt. This severe underdevelopment places the response at the lower bands.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to use basic organizational structures, such as introducing the topic with a standard opening frame and attempting a transition phrase ('on the one hand'). However, because the text is exceptionally brief and incomplete, there is no clear overall progression or coherent development of ideas across paragraphs. Paragraphing is also misused, as the text breaks down prematurely into an unfinished thought without concluding the logical sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, featuring straightforward words like 'reason', 'learn', and 'foreign language'. There are noticeable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'individual argue' instead of 'individuals argue', 'other think' instead of 'others think', 'veiws' instead of 'views', and 'woken' instead of 'widen'. These errors and the limited range reflect the constraints of a very short, emergent response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical structures attempted are very limited, relying on simple sentence frames with basic subject-verb patterns. There are noticeable errors in agreement and word forms, such as 'A few individual argue' where the plural noun is missing, and capitalization issues such as starting 'on the one hand' with a lowercase letter mid-text. Complex structures are absent, and the frequent minor errors restrict the grammatical range significantly.
