Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response touches upon the prompt by mentioning travelling and working abroad, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at 112 words. Furthermore, the discussion of the two views and your own opinion is limited and underdeveloped. While you attempt to outline reasons why people learn a foreign language, such as business or further study, the ideas lack extension and clear supporting examples. To reach a higher level, you must write at least 250 words, fully develop both perspectives presented in the prompt, and clearly articulate your own stance with well-supported arguments throughout a fully realised essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0
The writing lacks an overall logical progression and clear paragraph structure, presenting instead as a single block of loosely connected ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing or used inadequately, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of argument. For instance, sentences like 'However it is not one reason to learning...' use transition words mechanically without effectively linking clauses or paragraphs. Referencing is also unclear at times, such as the repetitive use of 'there' and 'foreign country'. To improve cohesion, you should organise your thoughts into distinct paragraphs with clear topic sentences and use a wider variety of accurate cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through your arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying frequently on simple words like 'foreign language', 'country', and 'people'. There are also several noticeable word choice and word form errors, such as 'most improtent' instead of 'most important', 'traveling in' instead of 'traveling to', and 'knowlegde to' instead of 'knowledge of'. These errors and the limited range mean the language is minimally adequate at best. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider and more precise range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items and correct collocations related to travel, work, and language acquisition, while also eliminating basic spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple, repetitive patterns linked by coordinating conjunctions. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tenses, and prepositions, such as 'is most improtent', 'learning foregin language', and 'because sometimes do you good opportunity'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also weak, with run-on structures like 'i think it is importent for everyone because sometimes do you good opportunity for work or study, however some adults...'. To improve your grammar score, you need to demonstrate control over a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, ensure correct subject-verb agreement and article use, and minimise basic structural errors.
