Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally and tangentially, failing to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words by stopping short at 180 words. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding the reasons for learning a foreign language, the ideas remain heavily restricted, underdeveloped, and barely supported. The position is unclear and lacks proper elaboration throughout the short essay. To improve, the candidate must fully explore both prompts with extended reasoning and ensure the word count requirement is met.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation attempted through introductory and transitional phrasing such as 'to begin with' and 'on the other hand', but the response lacks clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, though structural boundaries are confusingly applied with erratic spacing and lack of clear logical flow between ideas. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, resulting in choppy transitions that hinder readability. To progress, the writer needs to structure paragraphs logically and use a wider variety of accurate cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing restricted terms such as 'foreign language', 'traveling', and 'work' repeatedly. There are noticeable lexical errors, incorrect word forms, and spelling mistakes—such as 'cruicial', 'consider', 'abhout', 'tarditions', 'oue', 'multi languages', 'neccesary', 'absolutelly', and 'comunicating'—that occasionally strain the reader and limit comprehension. To achieve a higher band, the candidate must broaden their lexical range and demonstrate accurate word formation, spelling, and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic clauses. Attempts at complex sentence forms are consistently faulty, seen in problematic constructions like 'there are consider debate on the issue that some people believe for language learning only for travel' and 'we have no idea what difficulty is stand in our front so, we should ready to face the problems'. Frequent errors in verb forms, articles, punctuation, and prepositions appear throughout the text and frequently distort meaning. To improve, the candidate needs to gain control over basic sentence boundaries and expand their repertoire of error-free complex grammatical forms.
