Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people have a perception that learning a foreign language is only related to working or travelling to that foreign country. Well, that is just a point of view. Learning a language is not only limited to travel or work, it has many other reasons as well.
Many people often learn a foreign language when they decide to pursue their degree or a job from a foreign country. Some people do this when they travel to foreign destinations. In order to communicate with local community there to better understand their culture and traditions, learning their language is a must thing. These are very common cases when individuals intend to learn a foreign language.
Despite the above stated facts, learning a new language has many other reasons. Many individuals have an interest for foreign cinema. In order to watch movies and web series in their native language to better connect with the characters and their emotions, lot of people opt to pursue the knowledge of that foreign language. Apart from that, there are many demanding jobs for translators in each country to entertain foreign visitors and patients. To obtain good health facilities some people travel to other countries. If there is no one there to entertain those patients, it would be a great difficulty to understand their problem. Also many non-English speaking countries have people of keen interest in foreign trips. So to entertain those foreigners many people learn their language so they could be provided with better residence facilities.
Now we have gone through lot of reasons of learning an outside language and these did not include only travelling or working abroad. In fact, the spectrum is quite large than expected. From education, cinema to a natural interest in speaking different languages, it covers many areas of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both views and make your position clear: learning a language can serve purposes beyond travel and work. The first body paragraph gives relevant reasons for learning a language to study, work, or communicate while travelling. The second adds interests such as foreign films and the need for translation in healthcare and tourism. However, these examples are not equally well developed: the explanation about patients and “residence facilities” is difficult to follow, and the education point is mentioned but not illustrated. Your conclusion restates the broad range of reasons rather than drawing together the strongest arguments. Develop fewer examples more fully and explain how they support your view.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding paragraph. Linking phrases such as “Despite the above stated facts” and “Apart from that” help signal shifts between ideas. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the progression within the second body paragraph is uneven: it moves from cinema to translators, healthcare, tourism, and accommodation without clearly showing how each point relates to the main argument. References such as “these” in “These are very common cases” are understandable but could be more precise. Group related examples together and use clearer topic sentences and transitions so the argument develops more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “foreign destinations,” “local community,” “traditions,” “translators,” and “non-English speaking countries.” This allows you to discuss several relevant contexts. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “a must thing,” “pursue the knowledge,” “entertain foreign visitors and patients,” and “residence facilities” do not express the intended meanings clearly. “Outside language” is also less natural than “foreign language.” Aim for more conventional collocations and check whether a word fits the context; for example, translators may “assist” or “communicate with” patients rather than entertain them.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including purpose clauses such as “In order to communicate with local community there” and conditional phrasing such as “If there is no one there…”. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions reduce accuracy. Examples include the missing article in “with local community,” the structure “decide to pursue their degree or a job from a foreign country,” and “lot of people,” which needs a determiner. The sentence beginning “Now we have gone through…” also uses an unnatural tense for summarising the essay. Review articles, countable nouns, and sentence construction, and read each sentence aloud to check that its grammar is complete.
