Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You state a general view that people should learn a foreign language and mention study abroad, travel, business, and study. However, the task asks you to discuss both views: that travel and overseas work are the only reasons, and that there are other reasons. Your response does not clearly explain either side or develop a comparison, and your own opinion is only briefly stated. The examples about children studying abroad and using online resources are relevant but are not explained enough to support your position. The response is also 145 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to address the task fully. To improve, explain each view in a separate paragraph, give a specific example for each, and state clearly why you agree or disagree.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to connect ideas, using expressions such as “because,” “however,” and “moreover,” and the response stays broadly focused on language learning. However, the ideas are not arranged into clear paragraphs or a logical discussion of the two views. The shift from travel and business to children studying abroad, then to apps and videos, feels like a list rather than a progression. Some linking words do not show the intended relationship clearly; for example, “however” introduces a point that is not a clear contrast. Organise the essay into an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Use linking phrases only where they accurately show contrast, cause, or addition, and make references such as “these reasons” explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a small set of relevant topic words, including “foreign language,” “travelling,” “business,” “study abroad,” “apps,” and “podcasts,” so the general subject is understandable. There are also attempts to use more specific vocabulary, such as “further study.” However, the range is repetitive, and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy: “importent,” “bussiness,” “knowlegde,” “chilldren,” and “vocaublery.” Some phrases are unnatural, including “join the IELTS class” and “learn about foreign language.” Build a more accurate range around the task, such as “employment opportunities,” “cultural understanding,” and “communicate with local people.” Check spelling and learn common word partnerships so your vocabulary expresses ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly uses simple statements and attempts a few longer sentences with “because” and “so,” showing an effort to connect clauses. However, sentence structures are limited, and errors in basic grammar frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “it is help for travelling” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “everyone have” and “every chilldren plan” show problems with subject–verb agreement. In “people should watching,” the verb form after “should” is incorrect, and “then i must people can understand” does not form a clear grammatical clause. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using correct forms such as “can help people travel” and “children plan to study abroad.”
