Student answer (Band 5.5)

Learning foreign language is a rising habit in these days, some people argue that reason of learning a foriegn language is only for travel and work purpose. While, others argue that these are not only reasons. In this essay I will discuss both views before presenting my own opinion.

It is common fact that many individuals believe that foreign language is only learn for the travel and work purpose. Now these days people frequently travel in many countries for the tourism. They learn different langauge for communcation with the local people of these countries and it is convenient for travel if they know the native language. Meanwhile, many people travel foreign countries for the work or studies purpose. For instance numerous EU countries have the ilets requirements for student who want study their. Workers also need the language skills for jobs opportunites.

On the other hand, many people argue that these are not the only reasons. There are many other reasons, many people learn foreign language and they are not traveling in these countries for the work and tourism. They have interest to learn something new and they are curious to learn new langauge. Furthermore, there is another important reason that people are interested in other lanaguge literature and poetry. Therefore, they learn these language to understand these literature.

Moreover many people have friends in other countries and they learn langauge of these countires to communicate with friends.

Overall, both aspect have solid argument, however, in my opinion I agree that travel and work are not only reasons for leraning new langauge. There are many other aspects many poelple have interest and famous aurthors and peots is also an essential factor for learng foreign languge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear opinion: the final paragraph says that travel and work are “not only reasons” for learning a language. The discussion includes relevant reasons on each side, such as communicating with local people, employment or study, personal curiosity, literature, and friendships. This covers the task, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the reference to EU language requirements is unclear and does not show how it supports the work-and-travel view; the point about literature could also be developed with a specific example. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences or value of each reason and make your own position more explicit earlier, rather than leaving it mainly to the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. Transitions such as “On the other hand,” “Furthermore,” and “Overall” help readers follow the discussion. However, some linking is mechanical or imprecise, and ideas within paragraphs are not always connected smoothly. The repeated opening “many people” makes the second body paragraph feel list-like, while “Therefore” does not clearly show the relationship between interest in literature and learning a language. The sentence beginning “Moreover many people have friends” would connect more naturally if it were integrated with the preceding examples. Use clearer referencing and vary how you introduce supporting points to improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “communicate,” “native language,” “curious,” “literature,” and “poetry,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors are noticeable. Phrases such as “travel and work purpose,” “learn something new,” and “famous authors and poets is also an essential factor” are awkward or imprecise. Misspellings including “foriegn,” “langauge,” and “opportunites” also reduce accuracy. Aim to learn common topic collocations and check spelling carefully; more precise expressions would help you explain the reasons without relying on repeated general words such as “many” and “reason.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including a relative clause in “people who want study” and a contrast structure beginning “While, others argue.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and punctuation occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “foreign language is only learn” needs a passive form, and “people who want study their” is missing “to” and has an unclear pronoun. The opening sentence is a comma splice, and “both aspect have” shows a number-agreement problem. Practise building accurate clauses first, especially passive constructions and verb patterns, then combine them with conjunctions and punctuate the resulting sentences carefully.
