Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that learning a foreign language is useful only for to travel and to work in a abroad country, while others believe that this are not only the reason why someone would learn a foreign language. This essay will discuss both perspectives before why I believe that learning a foreign language plays a vital role for people who works in a abroad.

On the one hand, some people argue that learning a new foreign is only useful to order to travel through a different country or to work in their. The main reason for this is that people think it can be only useful for traveller or employee who wants to go abroad. For example, people from different country often travel to a different country as to work or to explore where their spoken language can be helpful for individuals. Therefore, it can make them easy to make a conversation with the people of that country.

On the other hand, others believe that these langauge are not only the reason people intrested to learn a foreign language. This is mainly because there are other several factors that people should learng language. For example, individuals frequently wants to learn different languages because they can easily identify other countrie's lifestyle. Another example can be if they are watching movies in original dubbed once they find it difficult to understand, while learning that language can be useful to understand subtitles.

In conclusion, although some people believe thatlearning foreign language has limit benefits, others argue that learning new language can be more beneficial. In my opinion, I believe that it has significant benefit because not only useful to roder to travel or to work but also to understand new culture and to watch dubbed movies as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and give a personal position: you explain the travel/work argument, then offer cultural understanding and access to films as other motives. These examples are relevant, and the conclusion restates your view. However, the position is not fully consistent: the introduction says language learning is vital for people who work abroad, while the conclusion argues it is valuable for broader reasons too. The discussion of travel and employment is also quite general, and the film example is unclear (“original dubbed once”), so its relevance is harder to follow. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a specific example, and state your broader opinion consistently from the introduction onward.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the main stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated framing such as “For example” and “Another example.” Some links between ideas are unclear: the sentence about travelling “as to work or to explore” combines purposes awkwardly, and the film example does not clearly connect its details to the claim. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph develop one central point in a clear sequence and using pronouns or linking phrases with precise references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “foreign language,” “travel,” “work,” “lifestyle,” and “culture.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “original” films and “spoken language.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make parts difficult to understand: “learning a new foreign,” “in a abroad country,” “these langauge,” and “original dubbed once.” Repetition of “useful,” “people,” and “learn” also restricts precision. Build a bank of accurate topic collocations and check spelling and word forms; for instance, distinguish “subtitles” from “dubbed versions” when discussing films.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast in the opening and a reason clause beginning “This is mainly because.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. Examples include “only for to travel,” “this are not only the reason,” “people who works,” and “individuals frequently wants,” which show problems with verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. Articles and prepositions are also often inaccurate, as in “in a abroad country” and “useful to order to travel.” Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and clauses first, then combine them; careful proofreading for agreement, articles, and prepositions will improve clarity.
