Student answer (Band 4.5)

There are different languages around the world . Every country have its own language and has its own way of talk . Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is to travel or work in that country . Others say that these are not only reasons for someone should learn foreign language .

In my opinion the most people learn foreign language for travel or work in foreign country , because it is the first condition for getting visa there . Country gives visa to that people that have good communication skills in international language . For example you want to travel to germany and the first condition for germany is you should learn a german language .

Peoples also learn foreign language for work there , because if you have good command on foreign language its help in communicate to people that are related to you work . It also make understanding between them and create a good realation in easy way .

On other hand people says that are not only reasons for someone learn foreign language . I think its maybe a not reason for someone , maybe people could learn foreign language for gaining more knowledge and they have more intreset in that country . I think someone learn language because his friends are persauding him or learn language for his friends, maybe his friend are foreign and they persaude him to learn language .

I think most people learn foreign language in order to travel or work in foreign country . Because foreign language takes a much of time , these people should spent time on this.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both views and state a position: you say that people mainly learn languages for travel or work, while also mentioning knowledge, interest in another country, and friendships. These points are relevant, but the response only partially develops the task. The travel example about Germany is presented as a visa condition rather than being explained or supported, and the reasons involving knowledge and friends are brief and uncertain (“maybe”). Your conclusion repeats your main view without weighing the alternative reasons. To strengthen the response, explain why learning a language can be valuable beyond travel and employment, then support each main point with a clear example. The response meets the stated length requirement; 13 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, reasons for travel and work, an opposing view, and a conclusion. Connectors such as “For example” and “On other hand” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is uneven, and several links are unclear or repetitive. The opening repeats the task rather than establishing a clear direction, while the final paragraph restates the travel-and-work point without drawing the discussion together. Within paragraphs, ideas sometimes run together, as in the sentence about work, communication, understanding, and relationships. Use clearer topic sentences and develop one idea at a time; also use referencing and transitions accurately so the relationship between each reason and your opinion is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general subject, including “foreign language,” “communication skills,” “knowledge,” and “understanding.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “learn foreign language” and “people.” Some inaccurate word choices and collocations make parts difficult to interpret, such as “first condition for getting visa,” “good realation,” and “people are persauding him.” Spelling errors, including “intreset” and “persaude,” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of expressions for discussing motives and benefits, and check spelling and common word partnerships. For example, describe language learning as helping people “communicate effectively” or “broaden their cultural understanding.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons, using structures such as “because” and “if.” This shows an effort to connect ideas, but the range remains limited and errors occur frequently, sometimes making meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “Every country have,” “its help,” and “It also make,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, as well as “these are not only reasons for someone should learn,” which has a faulty clause structure. Articles and plurals are also often missing or inconsistent, as in “learn a foreign language” and “a german language.” Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly formed supporting clause, then check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
