Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often held that people believe that learning foreign language is the key to open the doors or have access to travel or work in foreign country. While, some argue that these are not the only reasons specially the foreign language to get at entry level in a foreign country. This essay will discuss both the view and argue in favour of the latter. On one hand, most of the people think that learning a foreign langauge which also can make them practice some courses like english proficiency test for example, ilets can lead them to a bright future and they can have the access to work and travel to different countries. Because they consider it the main step which can solve all the problems because it is also a mindset of our society. On the other hand, some other people think that language cannot be only the leading ladder towards the foreign countries, if they think of job there are specific requirements given by each of the organization which should be fulfilled not just language. Furthermore, travelling to the foreign country needs more focus on the language to understand the environment of the respective country. In my opinion only language cannot be the path of success to open opportunities in the foreign counties this is a basic level, further advancement is needed in skills when applying to the specific role of an organization of interest. Language can be just important for travelling where no such other experties are required. In conclusion, the people in the world mostly consider that language is the basic factor leading towards the developed countries while in my opinion professionalism, skills and language all are important aspects.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a position, especially in “This essay will discuss both the view and argue in favour of the latter” and your later point that language alone is not enough for professional success. The discussion is relevant, but the reasons are only partly developed. The first view is linked to travel and work, yet the explanation that language “can solve all the problems” is broad and not supported with a specific example. The second view is clearer when you mention employers’ requirements and additional skills, but the travel point is not fully explained. Your conclusion also introduces “professionalism, skills and language” without showing how these factors relate. Develop each view with a concrete example and keep your position consistent and explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two contrasting sections, an opinion and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the main stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several ideas are joined without clear explanation. For example, the first body section moves from language tests to a bright future and then to society’s mindset, without showing the links between these points. The sentence beginning “In my opinion” also combines several claims in a long sequence. Use clearer topic sentences, develop one main idea at a time, and make references such as “these” and “this” more specific. This would make the organisation easier to follow and reduce reliance on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “foreign language,” “specific requirements,” “skills,” and “opportunities,” and you attempt less common expressions such as “leading ladder.” However, the range is limited by repeated wording around language, countries and access, while several choices are inaccurate or unnatural. For instance, “open the doors” is not well integrated with “have access,” and “language cannot be only the leading ladder” makes the meaning unclear. There are also spelling errors in “langauge,” “ilets,” “counties,” and “experties,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling carefully. Replacing vague phrases with expressions such as “improve employment prospects” or “meet job-specific requirements” would make your argument clearer and more appropriate for an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “which,” and “where.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction and punctuation sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to understand. The opening sentence, “It is often held that people believe,” uses a redundant reporting structure, while “While, some argue…” is an incomplete or incorrectly punctuated clause. In “learning foreign language is the key,” the article is missing, and “the people… mostly consider” has an awkward subject construction. Several sentences run together, particularly the opinion sentence beginning “In my opinion only language…”. Practise accurate articles, clause boundaries, and punctuation, and divide long sentences where necessary. More reliable control of these patterns would make your meaning easier to follow.
