Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people argue that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country, while other believe that there are other reasons why someone should learn a foreign language. This essay will discuss both views, I completely agree with view that there are several reasons to learn foreign language because people can communicate, share their thoughts and ideas with others.

Some people believe that learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or for professional work only. Many countries provide facilities to work in their country, so many individuals learn foreign language to only to communicate with their office staff. For example, Many international company gave jobs to another country youngster only then they learn foreign language in order to communicate with client. Another reason is that some individual learn foreign language in order to travel the world. Visitors learn basic foreign language to share their ideas and feeling with foreigners. For example, Some people learn basic english only to communicate in international people, so they can tell them what they want. As a result, some people believe that people learn a foreign language in order to travel to or work in a foreign country

On the other hand, many individuals believe that their several reason why some should learn a foreign language. Some people learn foreign in order for higher education in international countries. For instance, many youngster in India wants to learn english language to give exam for higher education in international countries. Another reason is that many individuals wants to develop their career in foreign countries and want permanent residence in foreign countries, so they develop skill to communicate ideas and thoughts with foreign residence. For instance, Many people from India wants to get permanent residence in Canada, therefore they to learn english language, so they can become member of that country. Hence, their are several reasons why an individual should learn foreign language.

In conclusion, It is true that some people learn foreign language in order to travel and work, but their are several reasons why an individual learn international language. I believe that people should learn foreign language for better career options and better opporunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views and state your position: the introduction says you agree there are “several reasons,” and the conclusion highlights career options and opportunities. The examples about employment, travel, higher education and migration are relevant. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The first view is repeated in the paragraph’s concluding sentence, while the reasons beyond travel and work largely remain within education and career-related migration; the essay does not explore broader motivations such as cultural understanding or personal interest. Some examples, such as learning English to communicate with international people, are also general and do not clearly illustrate the point. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a specific example, and make your opinion more precise throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs presenting the contrasting views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the other hand,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the basic structure. However, progression within paragraphs is repetitive and sometimes unclear. The first body paragraph ends by restating its opening claim, and the second moves from higher education to career development without explaining how these ideas relate to the broader view. Linking phrases such as “Another reason” are used repeatedly, while references such as “their” in “their several reason” make connections difficult to follow. Organise each paragraph around distinct reasons, explain the link between them, and use referencing and transitions more precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “professional work,” “higher education,” “career options,” and “permanent residence.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “foreign language,” “foreign countries,” and “communicate.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “international people,” “foreign residence,” and “develop skill,” which can make the intended meaning less clear. Spelling errors, including “opporunities,” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of natural expressions for language learning, employment, travel and cultural exchange, and check collocations and spelling. For example, “communicate with people from other countries” is clearer than “communicate in international people.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “so,” “because” and “therefore,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, errors occur frequently in basic sentence patterns and in the more complex attempts. Examples include “other believe” instead of a plural verb, “Many international company gave jobs,” and “many youngster in India wants,” where agreement and number are incorrect. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “learn foreign language” and “therefore they to learn.” Punctuation is inconsistent, including capital letters after commas and full stops. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and plural forms, then build longer sentences from those reliable patterns and proofread each sentence.
