Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some believe that individuals should learn a foreign on language only if they want to move abroad for travel or work, while others agure that there can more reasons to learn a foreign language. I agree with the latter view because no everyone travel to another country and people learn different foreign languages to connect foreign clients remotely and or become a translator in the future

Learning a foreign is difficult and expensive because it requires alot of practice, language materials, and sometimes learning environment where everyone learns and speaks the same foreign language. For these reasons, people believe an individual should only learn a foreign language if want to travel abroad or to work there. I disagree with this view because although learning a language do involves such things, the benefits are not limited to work or travel to different nation than yours.

On the other hand, foreign language can open several opportunities rather than only working or travelling to another country, such as communicating to foreigners remotely and using it professionally while being a translator in the companies. In this era, as technology is evolving and people reach to foreign clients through online. If they know their language their pitch the ideas or solve their problems and charge them as service. Furthermore, sometimes foregin partners visit a company in other countries so in that case a translator can help them to understand and deliver each other points. Thorefore, I believe one should learn foregin language.

In conclusion, although learning a foreign can be expensive and requires practice, it does not limit its scope people can be a translator or expand their reach to foreign clients remotely by learning a foregin language.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear position: you disagree that travel or overseas work are the only reasons to learn a language. Your examples of communicating with foreign clients online and helping visiting business partners are relevant to this position. However, the view supporting travel and work is explained mainly through the cost and effort of learning, rather than why people see travel or employment abroad as the main purposes. The benefits you support are also somewhat narrow, and the point about becoming a translator is not developed with a specific example. To strengthen the response, explain each side more directly and extend your examples by showing how language skills create practical or personal benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, the first body paragraph moves from the expense of learning to the view that language study should be limited to travel or work without fully explaining that link. In the next paragraph, the ideas about online clients and visiting partners are relevant but could be separated and developed more clearly. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main point, and make references such as “these things” or “in that case” more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “foreign clients,” “translator,” “opportunities,” and “professionally,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make the writing less natural. Examples include “foreign on language,” “agure,” “alot,” “reach to foreign clients,” and repeated misspellings of “foreign.” Some phrases, such as “deliver each other points,” do not express the intended meaning clearly. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; varying repeated terms such as “foreign language” would also make the response more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession with “although” and a conditional phrase beginning “If they know their language.” These attempts show some range, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are noticeable and sometimes make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “because no everyone travel” has problems with the determiner and subject–verb agreement, while “although learning a language do involves” has an incorrect auxiliary and verb form. The sentence beginning “If they know their language” also lacks a clear, correctly formed continuation. Practise building complete clauses, checking agreement and verb forms, and using punctuation to separate long sentences.
