Student answer (Band 6.0)
Few individuals believe that the sole reason for studying an additional language is only for travel abroad or to find employment overseas in a foreign country. On the other hand, others argue that it is not enough of a driving force for any person to learn a foreign language. Studying a foreign language is helpful for us. In this essay, I will discuss both sides and then give my opinion.
On the one hand, learning a foreign language is extremely beneficial for those who want to study or work abroad. Firstly, it allows travellers to communicate with local people, ask for directions, and understand important information. Therefore, it makes their trip convenient. Knowing another language can help people find jobs abroad without any hurdles. In addition to this, travelers may find it easier to understand others country tradionals and cultures. For example, a Pakistani graduate with good English skills may have better opportunities to work for an international company.
On the other hand, traveling and employment are not the only reasons to learn a foreign language. Some people learn a foreign language for the growth of their knowledge, for understanding, and also for writing a story or letter in that language. Furthermore, language learning can allow them to see how people live and celebrate their traditions in a foreign country. Moreover, a few people also learn an additional language to watch their movies and cartoons in their original language. For instance, learning Arabic can help students understand Arabic literature and communicate with people from Arabic-speaking countries.
From my perspective, learning a language should be limited to travel or work. It will broaden our horizons and give better opportunities for study abroad as well as for work, and help us develop relationships with people from different backgrounds.
In conclusion, while foreign languages are valuable for travelling and finding employment abroad, they also offer significant educational and cultural advantages. Therefore, I believe that people should learn foreign languages for a wide range of reasons.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both views and give a concluding opinion, so the response addresses the main parts of the prompt. The travel/work paragraph offers relevant benefits, such as communicating with local people and improving employment prospects, while the second body paragraph adds educational, cultural and entertainment reasons. However, the position is unclear: “From my perspective, learning a language should be limited to travel or work” contradicts the view in your conclusion that people should learn languages “for a wide range of reasons.” Some points are also under-developed; for example, “growth of our knowledge” is listed without explaining what knowledge or how language learning provides it. State one consistent opinion and support the main reasons with fuller explanation or examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. Within paragraphs, however, ideas sometimes read as a list, particularly the several reasons in the second body paragraph, rather than developing through clear explanation. “Furthermore” and “Moreover” add points, but the links between those points and the central argument could be more explicit. The separate opinion paragraph also conflicts with the conclusion, weakening the overall progression. Make the position consistent and use topic sentences and follow-up explanations to show how each example supports the paragraph’s main idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “communicate with local people,” “employment abroad,” “broaden our horizons,” and “cultural advantages.” These expressions help convey relevant ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices, such as “others country tradionals,” “without any hurdles,” and “for the growth of our knowledge.” Spelling errors such as “tradionals” also reduce precision. Some wording is repetitive, especially repeated references to “foreign language” and “learn.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise terms, and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe understanding “another country’s traditions” and gaining “broader knowledge” rather than using the less natural phrases in the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, and several sentences are controlled well, including “Therefore, it makes their trip convenient” and the concluding sentence beginning “while foreign languages are valuable.” Subordinate clauses and infinitive structures also appear in “those who want to study or work abroad” and “to watch their movies.” Some grammatical errors remain, but they rarely prevent understanding. For example, “others country” needs a possessive form, and “learning a language should be limited to travel or work” is structurally clear but does not express the intended position consistently with the conclusion. The opening phrase “the sole reason … is only for” is also unnecessarily repetitive. Continue varying sentence structures while checking possessives, articles, and concise construction.
