Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays a section of people in this society argue that the only aim behind learning foreign language is to travel or work in that particular country. Whereas other domain believe that there are other reasons behind learning a new language. In my opinion, learning new foreign language is beneficial in understanding the culture and tradition of that country along with communication with one another during travel or work.

The felling of one person can effectively transfer to other one only through a strong medium of communication. For example, Nowadys most of the people relocating to foreign like the United Kingdom appear for IELTS to prove proficiency in English. Because when the reach that country with english as common language, we should be able to communicate in that language comfortably with other person in every instance especially in work place. Morever, attending a meeeting and hang out with colleagues demands the need of that particular language for communication and sharing ideas.

On the other hand, gaining provision in a foreign language help us to understand the culture and tradition of that particular country other than communication. It is seen that, several television programmes and broadcasts which explains several rare and fasinating culture of various countries. Thus, listening to such programmes, we can develop the knowlege regarding the history, practices and tradition of that particular country. Furthermore, this gives us an opportunity to read books. From my personal experience, learning english language gives me opportunity to read books in different journal which provides me new experience in exploring the art forms and life style of people in that country.

In conclusion, learning a new foreign language is a additional benefit in various ascepts like understanding the tradition culture of that particular country along with communication during travel and in workplace.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and give a clear opinion: your introduction argues that language learning supports cultural understanding as well as communication for travel or work, and the conclusion restates this position. The body paragraphs provide relevant support, including workplace communication and reading books in another language. This meets the task well overall. However, the first view is developed more fully through examples of relocation and colleagues, while the broader reasons beyond travel and work are mainly narrowed to culture, tradition, and reading. The television-programme example is also not fully explained. To strengthen the response, develop a wider range of reasons—such as education or relationships—and explain more precisely how each example supports your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “On the other hand,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and the ideas generally progress from communication to cultural benefits. This is a coherent arrangement. Some links are less smooth or precise, however. The opening “Whereas” creates a fragment after the first sentence, and “Thus” does not clearly show how listening to programmes leads to the stated knowledge. References such as “that particular country” are repeated, making cohesion somewhat mechanical. Use complete sentence structures, vary referencing, and make the relationship between each example and its point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “proficiency,” “communication,” “tradition,” and “relocating,” and you attempt less common expressions such as “sharing ideas” and “exploring the art forms.” These choices show an effort to discuss both practical and cultural reasons. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, word forms, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “gaining provision” does not express language ability, “other domain” is unclear, and “different journal” is not suitable for books. There are also misspellings such as “felling,” “fasinating,” and “knowlege.” Build accuracy by checking collocations and spelling, and choose direct, natural phrases rather than translating expressions literally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “programmes and broadcasts which explains…” and a subordinate clause beginning “Because when…”. This shows some range, and the main ideas can generally be understood. However, complex structures are often not controlled accurately, and errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and verb forms recur. For example, “other domain believe” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “Because when they reach that country…” is an incomplete sentence and shifts awkwardly into “we should be able.” The opening “Whereas” also leaves a fragment. Practise building complete sentences with one clear main clause, then check agreement and article use; this will make your meaning easier to follow.
