Student answer (Band 6.0)
Multiple languages are spoken across the globe by people. Other the native languages, some People believe that they learn new languages just to travel or to work in foreign country while others belive that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.
People love to travel and also people have to move to other countries for work. In both cases, people learn new languages in order to communicate with the people of that country they are visiting. Some people think that these are the only reasons for learning new language. Why a person sitting in south Asia with learn French if he is not visiting France for tourism or job. In the same case why a French person will learn Urdu or Hindi if he is not planning to visit south Asia. Learning a language is a long and hard work demanding process. People do not start learning foreign languages if they know that it is of no use for them.
Some people believe that there are also other reasons why people learn foreign languages. People can learn other languages to study books in their original language while some learn foreign languages to watch and understand the entertainment content in original language.
In my opinion, languages are not learnt just for the sake to communicate when you visit to some particular country but there are also other reasons why someone should learn a foreign language. Some people want to experience other cultures by understanding their languages. I am also learning Arabic and Persian despite the reason that I have future plans to visit Arab countires or Iran for job or tourism. I am learning these languages to read and understand the literature. Quran is written in Arabic and I can understand it more if I know arabic. My favourite poet Allama Iqbal has written also of his poetry is persian and I want to know the message behind his poetry. Language is not for just communication but it also carries the scent of cultures and literature.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and make your own position clear: learning languages can support travel and work, but also access to literature, religion and culture. The personal examples about Arabic, Persian, the Quran and Allama Iqbal make your opinion relevant and help show why language learning has value beyond practical communication. This fully covers the task and begins to develop the argument beyond a simple list of reasons. However, the case for travel and work is developed mainly through rhetorical questions and broad claims, while the alternative reasons are also briefly stated before the personal example. Explain more fully how these purposes benefit learners, and support the generalisations with clearer reasoning. More balanced development would strengthen an already clear response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting the travel-and-work view, a paragraph presenting other reasons, and a final paragraph giving your opinion. This makes the overall direction understandable. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and some links feel mechanical or unclear. The repeated pattern “Some people…” and the sequence of rhetorical questions do not always build the argument smoothly. The short paragraph beginning “Some people believe…” introduces two examples but does not connect them clearly to the later discussion of culture and literature. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main point, then explain and illustrate it in a deliberate order. Clearer referencing and fewer repeated transitions would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including “communicate,” “original language,” “literature,” “cultures” and “the message behind his poetry.” These choices help express ideas beyond basic travel vocabulary, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “a long and hard work demanding process,” though this combination is not natural English. Other word-choice and spelling slips include “Other the native languages,” “belive,” “countires” and “scent of cultures”; these reduce accuracy and polish without preventing understanding. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, “a long and hard work demanding process” could be replaced with “a lengthy and demanding process,” while “scent of cultures” would be clearer as “essence of a culture.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional questions and clauses beginning with “while” and “despite.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas can usually be understood. However, errors occur across sentence patterns and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “Why a person sitting in south Asia with learn French,” “if he is not visiting France,” and “I have future plans to visit Arab countries or Iran,” where question structure, verb forms and articles or prepositions need attention. The sentence “My favourite poet Allama Iqbal has written also of his poetry is persian” is particularly difficult to follow because its clauses are not joined correctly. Practise forming accurate questions and combining clauses, then proofread for agreement, articles and punctuation.
