Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a relevant opinion: learning a language is not only for travel, but also for understanding culture and gaining knowledge. The paragraphs about cultural understanding and education provide some support, including the reference to language as a mirror of society. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the reasons for learning a language specifically to travel or work abroad are not explained. Your own position is present, but it is not developed with enough detail, and the educational point is broad rather than supported by a clear example. To strengthen the response, explain why travel or overseas work motivates learners, then develop your wider reasons with specific examples and a consistently clear argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs each focus on a general reason for learning a language, and linking expressions such as “Firstly” and “Moreover” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because the first view in the question—travel or work abroad—is not given its own explanation, and the second body paragraph moves from education to daily practice without making the connection fully clear. Some linking phrases are repetitive or do not express the intended relationship precisely. Organise the body around the two views in the prompt, and use clearer topic sentences and references so each example directly supports its paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “foreign language,” “social context,” “academic career” and “cultural norms.” These choices show an attempt to discuss ideas beyond basic travel vocabulary. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or forms make parts of the meaning unclear, such as “understand the new cultural,” “gather more knowledge” and “second language acquisition lead us.” Spelling errors, including “descipline” and “instututions,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and check word forms: for example, use “understand another culture,” “broaden our knowledge” and “learning a second language can lead us to…” This would make your ideas more natural and easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if we need to understand a certain cultural, we must understand their language first.” However, errors occur frequently in sentence structure, agreement, articles and verb forms, and they sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “process that need,” “this are not the only reason,” “the someone,” and “So, understand a foreign language may lead to get other cultures.” The conclusion also contains a sentence fragment-like construction beginning “In addiction this may help…” Work on reliable subject–verb agreement, article use and infinitive or gerund forms. Building accurate simple sentences first, then adding subordinate clauses, will improve clarity while retaining structural variety.
