Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You present a relevant opinion: learning languages is useful for more than travel and work, and you mention study and communication. You also attempt to discuss both views, using the example of workers in Spain and referring to students studying abroad. However, the discussion is brief and the reasons are only minimally explained; for example, the study point does not clearly show how language learning benefits students. The conclusion repeats your general position rather than drawing the discussion together. The response is 176 words, 74 words below the 250-word minimum, which limits how fully you can address and support both sides. Develop each view with a clear reason and a specific example before concluding.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the intended discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and some links are repetitive or unclear. For instance, both body paragraphs begin with “On the other hand” or “Other argue,” while “Moreover” introduces a point that is not clearly connected to the preceding explanation. The opening contrast between the views is also awkwardly divided into two sentences. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main idea, then explain and exemplify it in a clear sequence. Vary linking expressions and make references such as “these” and “their” unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a small set of relevant terms, including “foreign language,” “communicate,” “culture,” and “study abroad,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make the writing less clear. Examples include “communation” and “learniing,” as well as the unnatural phrase “interaction on their co-workers.” “Other country” is also repeated where more precise wording would help. Build a wider range of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully. For example, you could describe language as helping people “interact with colleagues” or “gain access to education abroad,” rather than relying on repeated general terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentence forms, including “I believe that…” and “so that they can communicate well,” but most structures are simple, and errors occur frequently. Agreement and sentence construction are problematic in examples such as “Certain individual believe” and “the only reason … are.” Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “a other country” and “few individual.” The opening “While other believe…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and punctuation is missing between “language” and “Moreover.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then add subordinate clauses, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries.
