Student answer (Band 4.5)

It is often argued that, some people think that learning of foreign is used to travel or work in foreign country. Others say that someone did not learn foriegn language for this reason.

Overall, some people learn foreign language to study abroad or to travel and they want to work in foriegn country, for some people this is not the reason.

Firstly, some people who have land on their names they think that our son could go to foreign country to study or to earn dollars there and send them to their parents so that they can live there beacause in India there are not high wages paying jobs for a person who is skilled inntermidate. Although the some foreign countries population are less they require people who can grow their economy so that the people study foreign language to go to abroad. Some people who are highly skilled can get a high salary jobs.

On the other hand, some people study foreign language to rome around the world. Nowadays english has been necessary to everyone, in interviews boss also prefer that interviewer should talk in english. So by talking in english peoples look professional, and if you run a company you have to deal with high profile clients. So you have to speak in foreign language while in meetings also. Schools are teaching grammer, english becomes part of our life.

In my opinion, in these days english is necessary to be speaked by everyone and also to be learned by everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify both views: learning for overseas study or employment, and learning for broader purposes such as travel, interviews, and business communication. Your opinion is also stated at the end, where you say English should be learned by everyone. However, the discussion only partly answers the question. The first view is developed mainly through a specific claim about Indian families and wages, while the second shifts between travel and the usefulness of English at work without clearly explaining why these are reasons beyond travel or employment. The opening repeats the prompt rather than establishing a clear position, and the conclusion does not weigh the two views. Develop each side with a focused explanation and relevant example, then state your own view clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “In my opinion” help readers recognise the intended stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow. The first paragraph moves from land ownership to studying abroad, sending money home, wages, population, and skilled workers without clearly connecting these points. The second combines travel, interviews, company clients, meetings, and school teaching, so its central idea becomes unclear. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “so that” and “So.” Organise each body paragraph around one main reason, explain it in a logical sequence, and use clearer references to connect examples to that reason.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “study abroad,” “high salary,” “skilled,” and “high profile clients,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is basic and several inaccurate or misspelled choices make the writing less clear or natural. Examples include “rome around the world” for travelling, “land on their names,” and “interviewer should talk in english.” Spelling errors such as “foriegn,” “beacause,” and “grammer” also recur. Some phrases are understandable but imprecise, such as “foreign language” when you mean English specifically. Build a more accurate set of expressions for education, employment, travel, and cultural communication, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a subordinate clause beginning “because” and a contrast introduced by “Although.” This shows an effort to connect ideas, but control is weak: errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to interpret. For example, “learning of foreign is used to travel” has an unclear grammatical structure, while “some people who have land on their names they think” contains an unnecessary repeated subject. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “a high salary jobs” and “english is necessary to be speaked.” Punctuation around clauses is inconsistent. Practise building accurate short sentences first, then combine them using correctly formed subordinate clauses.
