Student answer (Band 5.5)

Now a days, learning a new language is not only limited to work or travelling to any foreign country, but a few languages, for instance, English has become one of the main medium of communication globally. Some people tend to believe that learning a new language is usually associated with work or if you are visiting a new country. In contrast, some might say that, these are not the only possible reasons.

Most of the countries around the world, has been offering their coursework in a foreign language instead of their native language. Since, primary years of school students start learning and getting the knowledge in English. A fewer subjects have been taught in the native language. Not only in studying, but also in gaming industry, most players learn a new language, for instance, Japanese so that they can compete in video games as japanese video makers are sensational with their work. And that brings a lot audience and the need to learn their language.

Learning a new language, has been considered a skill and after being fluent in a specific language, people might be able to continue their profession as a language instructor. Also, with peeking interest in korean and turkish dramas, people have been more likely to learn that language because they wanted to sound jut like their favourite artists and starts dreaming about meeting them one day, by knowing their language they can communicate in a much better way.

In conclusion, learning a foreign is not only limited to work or travel but it is significant for modern day jobs, activities and for entertaiment too.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views: the opening identifies travel and work as common motives, while the body gives other reasons, including education, gaming, language teaching, and interest in dramas. Your conclusion also makes your position clear that language learning has wider value. These are relevant ideas, but the two sides are not developed equally: the reasons for travel and work are mostly introduced rather than explained, and several examples in the body need clearer links to why learning a language matters. For instance, the discussion of Japanese and video games is difficult to follow. To strengthen the response, explain each view with a specific reason and example, then state your own opinion more directly and support it throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the ideas generally move from common motives to other reasons. Linking phrases such as “In contrast,” “Also,” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the shift from education to gaming in the second paragraph, for example, is abrupt, and the connection between learning Japanese and attracting an audience is not fully explained. Some transitions also feel mechanical, while “Since” begins a sentence that does not form a complete thought. Group related reasons more clearly and use references and transitions that show how each example supports the main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “medium of communication,” “language instructor,” and “communicate,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “peeking interest” and “sensational with their work,” but these are inaccurate or unnatural collocations. Spelling and word-form errors, including “entertaiment,” “starts” for “stars,” and “jut,” also reduce precision. Some phrases are vague or repetitive, such as “a new language” and “a lot audience.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, explain that people learn a language to understand media or communicate with its speakers.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast structure in the introduction and a reason clause beginning “so that.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but some errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries and punctuation make the writing less controlled. For example, “Most of the countries … has been offering” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “Since, primary years of school students start…” is an incomplete sentence. Commas also interrupt grammatical structures in “Learning a new language, has been considered…” and “some might say that, these…”. Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement and punctuation when editing.
