Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, people have a debate on the topic that, whether foreign languages must be learnt only for work\travel abroad purposes or must be learnt for other reasons too. Personally, I believe in the first view, but have discussed both the perspectives as following.
Firstly, there is a common belief that foreign languages must be learnt for working or travelling overseas purposes. For instance, if a pakistani boy is willing to do a job in germany, so learning the german language becomes essential for him, in order to understand the professional conversations at german workspaces. This is because, the mother tounge such as urdu/punjabi will not be understod by germans, and if that pakistani individual heading to germany does not master the foreign language, so he could face communication hurdles; hence, it is thought as compulsory for individuals moving overseas to have strong grasp on the required foreign lanuguage, to smoothly travel/work abroad.
On the other hand, other people think that learning foreign language should not be limited for travel/job purposes only. They argue that, foreign languages must be mastered for educational reasons too. For instance, they point out that in order to understand the Islamic holy books, it is always a better idea to know the Arabic language, because they think that, when such scriptures are translated to people's native languages eg- English, so the Quranic verses' meanings get varied. Therefore, they believe that foreign languages must also be considered learning for knowledge purposes.
In my opinion, the first perspective of learning foreign dialects, must be for the reasons of moving/travelling abroad, because languages serves only as mode of communication, thereby spending time over mastering them must be avoided; since, the technological progression has made it possible to decode religious scripts with their original meaning. So its a better idea to attain knowledge about different dialects, when staying in foreign country for longer time period, in order to easily take part in day to day conversations.
To conclude, overseas languages should be mastered only in case of long term stay abroad, but should not be learnt for other minor reasons.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear preference for learning languages mainly for travel or work, so the response is relevant to the task. The first view is supported with a practical example of a Pakistani worker in Germany, and the second with the value of Arabic for understanding religious texts. However, the discussion is uneven: the opposing view receives one main reason, while your own position is asserted more than fully explained. The claim that languages serve “only as mode of communication” is also broad, and the reference to technology decoding religious scripts does not clearly show why this makes language learning unnecessary. Develop the reasoning behind your opinion and acknowledge other benefits before concluding that they are minor.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow, and examples are placed with the relevant arguments. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some effective progression. At times, however, linking is mechanical or the relationships between ideas are unclear. For example, the long first body paragraph repeatedly restates the need to communicate abroad, while “Therefore” in the second paragraph leads to a point that largely repeats the preceding claim. Use more precise referencing and vary how you connect explanation to evidence, so the links feel less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “professional conversations,” “communication hurdles,” “scriptures,” and “technological progression.” These choices show an attempt to express ideas beyond basic language. However, control is inconsistent, with noticeable spelling errors such as “tounge,” “understod,” and “lanuguage,” as well as awkward or inaccurate collocations: “overseas languages,” “foreign dialects,” and “strong grasp on” do not fit the intended meanings naturally. Repetition of “foreign language” and “purposes” also limits flexibility. Choose more conventional IELTS phrasing, check spelling carefully, and use “language” rather than “dialect” when discussing German or Arabic as languages. More accurate collocations would make your meaning clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “if,” and “in order to,” and the main ideas are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “there is a debate on the topic that, whether” uses an unnecessary construction and comma; “languages serves” has a subject–verb agreement error; and “a better idea to know” needs a more complete grammatical pattern. Several sentences are overloaded with clauses, especially the first body paragraph, making control less secure. Aim for a clearer mix of shorter sentences and subordinate clauses, and proofread agreement and article use. This would improve accuracy while preserving the range you are attempting.
