Student answer (Band 5.5)
The debate between learning foreign language for travel or work while others believe that these are not the major reason behind learning a foreign language.I strongly believe that learning foreign language is not only for tour or business purposes but also it allows to communicate with foreign friends and relatives
Firstly communicating with foreign language plays a crucial role in different purposes like work, travel and study. People always try to learn new language in order to study abroad, giving tour or going for business. It depends on their selected country. For example English language is the international language of the globe and the public try to learn this language for work study or travel purposes because of communicating with other people. As a result it will help them to talk with foreigners and allow them to overcome some problems.
Secondly there are some other people says that this are not the only factor somebody should learn a second language. They only try to learn a language because it can remove the barrier between communicating with foreign friends and relatives. Most of the countries people have many friends and relatives across the whole world but they can't recah them due to language problem. For example in many countries they try to join language classes in order to learn a new language for communicating with friends and relatives. Thus it will offer them to talk or chat with those people who are living in a foreign country.
In conclusion i believe that a balanced priority can make this argue clear because people not only can learn a language for higher study or travel or work but also they can learn a foreign language for other purposes including communicating with people who lives in a foreign country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a position: learning languages supports travel and work, but also helps people communicate with friends and relatives abroad. The examples about English and language classes are relevant, so the response remains focused on the question. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The first view is mainly listed as “work, travel and study,” without explaining why these purposes matter or giving a specific example; the second view repeats the point about friends and relatives rather than exploring other reasons. Your conclusion refers to a “balanced priority,” but does not clearly explain what balance you recommend. Develop each view with a distinct reason and a concrete example, and state your opinion more directly throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. This helps readers identify the two views. However, progression within paragraphs is limited: several sentences repeat the same point about communicating with people abroad, and the links between claims and examples are sometimes unclear. For instance, the first paragraph moves from work, travel and study to English as an international language, then to overcoming problems without specifying the connection. Some linking phrases, such as “As a result” and “Thus,” are used mechanically rather than showing a precise relationship. Organise each paragraph around one clear reason, then explain and illustrate it, using references that make the links between sentences explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “foreign language,” “international language,” “barrier,” and “language classes.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “communicating with” and “foreign country.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “giving tour,” “balanced priority,” and “offer them to talk,” which can make the intended meaning less clear. There are also spelling errors, including “recah,” and inconsistent forms such as “language problem.” Build a wider set of precise expressions for language learning and its benefits, and check spelling and collocations. For example, use “take a tour,” “a balanced view,” and “enable them to talk.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “in order to,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur frequently in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and verb forms. The opening is a fragment, and “there are some other people says” should use a plural subject with a matching verb; “this are” also has incorrect agreement. Articles are often missing in phrases such as “learning foreign language,” while “people who lives” has a subject–verb agreement error. Punctuation is also weak, with missing spaces after full stops and a run-on opening sentence. Practise building complete sentences with accurate articles and agreement, and use full stops to separate ideas before attempting longer structures.
