Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that learning a foreign language is mainly necessary for travelling or working abroad, while others argue that there are other several reasons for learning other language. Although language skills are undoubtedly useful for international travel and employment, I believe that they also offer great opportunities for career, educational and personal benefits.
On the one hand, learning a foreign language can make travelling and working in anorher country much easier. Tourists who understand the local language can communicate with residents, ask for directions and deal with unexpected situations without relying entirely on translation applications. Similarly, employees who speak the language of their host country may have better career opportunities because they can communicate with the colleagues and clients. For example, an Indian professional who learns German may find it easier to work for a German company and adapt a local working environment.
On the other hand, there are many reasons to learn a foreign language beyond travel and employment. Firstly, it allows people to understand different cultures, traditions and ways of thinking. By learning another language, people can enjoy foreign fims, books and entertainment content in their original form.
In my opinion, although travelling and working abroad are important motivations, they should not be consideres as the only reasons for learning a foreign language. The ability to communicate across cultures, gain knowledge personality.
In conclusion, foreign languages are useful for international travel and employment, but their benefits extend far beyond these purposes. Therefore, people should be encouraged to learn languages for both practical and personal development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a relevant opinion: language learning supports travel and employment, but also brings cultural and personal benefits. The travel and work paragraph is supported with practical examples, including asking for directions and the Indian professional learning German. However, the second view is less fully developed: cultural understanding and access to films and books are mentioned, but the final opinion paragraph ends with the incomplete idea “gain knowledge personality,” so your position and supporting reasons are not fully explained. To strengthen the response, develop this point with a complete explanation or example, and make clear how these wider benefits support your view that language learning has purposes beyond travel and work. The response is relevant, but some ideas remain under-developed or unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion. The examples are generally placed with the relevant point. However, the opinion paragraph does not progress into a complete explanation: “The ability to communicate across cultures, gain knowledge personality” leaves the relationship between ideas unclear and interrupts the flow. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Firstly” and explicit contrast markers. Build smoother connections between the cultural examples and your opinion, and ensure each paragraph develops a complete line of thought. Overall organisation is coherent, though cohesion is occasionally weakened by the unfinished sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “translation applications,” “host country,” “career opportunities,” and “original form.” These choices help explain practical and cultural reasons for learning languages. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “adapt a local working environment,” though this collocation is not natural. Spelling and word-form slips—“anorher,” “fims,” and “consideres”—are noticeable, and phrases such as “other several reasons” and “entertainment content” are awkward. These do not prevent the main message from being understood, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling; for example, use “several other reasons,” “adapt to the local working environment,” and “films.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concessive opening (“Although language skills are undoubtedly useful…”) and a relative clause (“Tourists who understand the local language…”). Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the overall structure is controlled. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in the incomplete opinion sentence, “The ability to communicate across cultures, gain knowledge personality,” which lacks a complete clause and clear grammatical relationships. In “they should not be consideres as the only reasons,” the passive construction is not correctly formed; it should be “should not be considered.” There are also occasional article or preposition issues, as in “communicate with the colleagues” and “adapt a local working environment.” Review sentence completeness and verb forms while retaining your varied structures.
