Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is always a great debate happens among people about learning of new languages other then their own. Some argue that it is only for traveling or working in other countries but some people argue that these are not the only reasons for a person to learn any foreign language.I think there are alot more reasons for learning foreign languages such as personal interest, enhancing their CV.

Firstly, some people thinks that if a person is learning somthing new, like foreign language then he must be trying to visit that place somewhere in future. That is why people trying to learn english, german or french so that they could travel to that places where these langueges are common and they could have greater experience their with people by interacting with them directly. Secondly, they think that those who seeks to get job in foreign countries like UK, France or germany they try to learn those languages for their ease and to get job there easily. For instance, If student who wants to start a job in Uk after his gaduation, so he must be fluent in English.

Addionally, There are some people that thinks that these are not the only reasons due to which people are trying to learn new languages. This could be their own personal interest of learning foreign languages. some people are doing it just for building new skills. For example, some undergraduate students learn german language just to bring that on their Cv.

in a nutshell, learning foreign languages is always been so helpful for people whether they just travel around world or do their jobs in foreign countries but it could also help them in their own country by making them different from the people in their competition.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views and give a clear opinion that language learning has additional benefits, including personal interest and improving a CV. The travel and employment examples are relevant, such as learning English to work in the UK. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the travel and work reasons are explained in similar, brief terms, while the alternative reasons are mainly listed rather than explored. The CV example would be stronger if you explained how another language could help someone stand out or access opportunities in their own country. Your conclusion restates the main position, but could more directly weigh the two views. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a specific, relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on travel and work, a paragraph on other motivations, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Additionally” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and several ideas are joined in long sentences, making their relationships less clear. For example, the sentence beginning “That is why people trying to learn…” combines the reason for learning with the expected travel experience without a clear grammatical link. Some references, such as “these” and “that place,” are also vague. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing, and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “foreign languages,” “personal interest,” “interacting,” and “building new skills.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “enhancing their CV.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which can make the writing less natural. Examples include “a great debate happens,” “greater experience,” and “bring that on their CV.” Spelling errors such as “somthing,” “langueges,” and “Addionally” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Aim to learn common collocations for discussing education and employment, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “if” and “so that,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “some people thinks” should use a plural verb, while “There is always a great debate happens” combines two incompatible structures. In “If student who wants to start a job…,” the conditional sentence is incomplete and the article is missing. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly after full stops. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected supporting clause before attempting longer constructions.
