Student answer (Band 5.5)

The amount of people interested learning other language is increasing, Some say their reasons of learning foreign languages is in order to travel or work in a foreign country while critics say they are not only reasons of learning new languages. From my perspective, I partly agree with both views learning new languages will get you work easily while some people may have passion to know different languages.

To begin with, In the search of better opportunities many people try to learn local languages, which helps them to build connections and friends in completly new country. Many countries today made neccessary to became eligible for jobs and adimissions in different institutions you need to learn the local language. For example to work in germany youn need to learn the basic german. Moreover learning new language will also helps you in travelling and saving yourself from different kind of scammers in a foriegn country.

Furthermore, the work and travel is not only reason of learning new language, Some people who are interested in literature or to know the culture of region can try to learn local language, in history many poets know language more then one like for example Allama iqbal mother tongue was punjabi but he also did poetry in persian and many other languages.

In conclusion, Learning language is helpful to know culture and get you more opportunities world wide, also it helps you in travelling but some people can learn it just for their passion or interset in learning new languaes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a personal position: you explain that language learning can support work and travel, while also recognising cultural and personal interests. The examples about learning German for employment and Allama Iqbal’s use of Persian help make the discussion relevant. However, the position that you “partly agree with both views” is not fully clarified, and the reasons are unevenly developed. The work and travel points are mentioned but not explored in much detail, while the cultural example is brief and its relevance to learning languages could be explained more explicitly. To strengthen the response, clarify how you weigh the two views and extend each main reason with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help signal the progression, and the reader can follow the main argument. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of more flexible progression. However, the links are somewhat mechanical, and several ideas are joined in long sentences without clear punctuation, particularly in the introduction and the travel paragraph. The conclusion also repeats earlier points rather than drawing the comparison together. Use clearer sentence boundaries and connect examples directly to the claims they support to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “better opportunities,” “local languages,” “literature,” and “culture,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “eligible for jobs” and “mother tongue.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: “interested learning,” “reasons of learning,” “completly,” and “foriegn” are examples. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “saving yourself from different kind of scammers.” Build accuracy by learning common combinations such as “interested in learning,” “reasons for learning,” and “protect yourself from scams,” and proofread spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “local languages, which helps them to build connections” and a conditional example about working in Germany. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors occur across sentence structure, agreement, verb forms, articles, and punctuation. For instance, “learning new language will also helps” combines an incorrect verb form with a missing article, while “many people try to learn local languages, which helps” has unclear agreement between the clause and its reference. Capitalisation after commas and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent. Aim first for accurate basic clauses, then add complex structures; check subject–verb agreement and ensure each sentence has a clear main clause.
