Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, some people believe that the main purpose of learning a new language is to obtain employement opportunities or to travel to a foreign country. While, other members of society think that these are not the only reasons why an individual obligated to learn a foreign language. From my perspective, learning a new language can encourage people to fulfill other curiosities beyond the purpose of travelling for working solely.

It is obviuos that one of the most popular reasons for people to learn a new language is to get better working conditions that may not be achieved in their own country. For example, due many financial crisis , many citizens often migrate to well developed countries , as such countries often provide much decent salary. Another reason for this trend is for travelling purpose. Many people are quite curious about culture and living style of other nations. In order to obtain better understanding about this curiosities , they often learn the language of particular country they want to visit. Hence, people try to learn a particular language regardless how time consuming the learning process can be just to get what they aimed for .

In contrast, others think the there are other aims for an individual who want to learn a new language, such as studying abroad which is one of the most well known reason currently. As many countries provide funded scholarship, participitation often requires fluency in the language of the host country. This requirement often encourage people to learn their language in order to improve the chance of acceptance. People claim that necessity to gain better medical services can be another can be another cause fir people to learn a foreign language. As it can be noticed some countries have very advanced medical settings, this influence people to learn their language or at least some phrases in order to make the doctors understand their symptoms fully

In conclusion, it is understandable that learning a foreign language can be advantageous approach for many different aspects of life. Not just for travelling or obtaining a job , but also for other importance purposes , such as expanding knowledge and solving health related issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You discuss both stated views and give a clear opinion: the introduction says language learning can satisfy “other curiosities,” and the conclusion reiterates that it has purposes beyond travel and employment. The employment and travel points are supported with examples, while study abroad and access to medical care extend the discussion to other motives. This covers the task well, though the development is uneven: the scholarship example explains the motivation, but the medical-care point is brief and its relevance to learning a language is not fully explored. To strengthen the response further, explain how these additional purposes benefit learners and connect each example more explicitly to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The contrast between “It is obvious” and “In contrast” helps signal the discussion, and examples generally follow the claims they support. However, some linking is mechanical or unclear. “Hence” does not clearly show the relationship between the travel example and the following generalisation, while “these curiosities” has an imprecise reference. The second body paragraph also moves from scholarships to medical care without a clear transition, and the conclusion introduces “expanding knowledge” without developing it earlier. Use more precise referencing and make the progression between examples explicit to improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “employment opportunities,” “funded scholarship,” “fluency,” and “advanced medical settings,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, but inaccurate word choice, collocation, word forms, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “obtain better understanding,” “much decent salary,” “participitation,” and “importance purposes”; “employement” and “obviuos” are misspelled. Some expressions are also awkward, such as “living style” and “for travelling purpose.” Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling and word forms carefully. This would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent while retaining the useful range already attempted.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning “While” and “As,” and most of the argument remains understandable. However, some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation reduce accuracy. For example, “While, other members of society think…” is an incomplete contrast structure, and “an individual obligated to learn” is missing a verb. In “this requirement often encourage people,” the subject and verb do not agree; “the there are” also contains an unnecessary word. Commas are often separated from the preceding word, and some sentences become difficult to follow because clauses are joined without clear control. Review complete sentence formation, subject–verb agreement, and punctuation, then proofread complex sentences.
