Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's interconnected world, language plays a pivotal role in an individual's life. A significant number of people contradict with each other about the importance of learning a foreign language. Although learning a foreign language is a skill and helps us in travelling and working, I believe there are other benefits also. This essay will discuss all the possible views.

First and the foremost reason of learning a foreign language is that it creates better work opportunity. People can work in any country online after knowing their language and communicate with foreign clients. Moreover, travelling became easier in other country, they can ask for the directions, know about hotels and other facilities. Resulting they can understand local people and avoid misunderstandings. For instance, an Indian engineer working in Germany, knows the German language can communicate effectively and manage everyday activity easily.

There are also other several reasons to learning a foreign language. People may know a different culture understand the spritual values. Apart from that, they can also watch movies, enjoy dramas and their festival, which enhance their overall personality. Futhermore, by learning a foreign language, anyone can study at foreign university, learn new ideas and gain knowledge and can create a broader perspective. They can also research their newspapers, access books, and other educational resources. For example, a student learning Japanese may enjoy T.V. shows, japanese stories, litrature without going to Japan.

To conclude, learning a different language can help not only in gaining new working opportunities and travelling to different places, but also it develope curiosity, increase personality and gives confidence.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and make your position clear: travel and work are useful reasons to learn a language, but you believe there are additional benefits. The work and travel paragraph gives relevant examples, including communicating with clients and asking for directions, while the second body paragraph adds cultural and educational reasons. However, the discussion is uneven: the first view is explained more concretely, whereas ideas such as understanding spiritual values and developing personality are asserted rather than fully explained. The examples are relevant but could be linked more explicitly to why these benefits matter. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason with a clearer cause-and-effect link and develop your opinion beyond the general conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sets of reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Moreover,” “Apart from that,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the progression. However, some linking is mechanical, and a few connections are unclear. For example, “Resulting they can understand local people” does not clearly connect grammatically to the preceding sentence, and “There are also other several reasons” is an awkward transition. The second body paragraph also moves quickly from culture to entertainment and then education, without showing how these points relate. Use fewer formulaic transitions and add clearer links between each idea and its supporting explanation.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “interconnected world,” “foreign clients,” “spiritual values,” “broader perspective,” and “educational resources.” These choices help you discuss work, travel, culture, and study. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “contradict with each other,” “better work opportunity,” and “enhance their overall personality.” Spelling errors, including “Futhermore,” “litrature,” and “japanese,” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but more precise collocations and careful proofreading would make the vocabulary more natural and effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“Although learning a foreign language…”) and a relative clause in the example about an Indian engineer. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “an Indian engineer working in Germany, knows” has an unnecessary comma and an incomplete clause structure; “it develope curiosity” has incorrect subject–verb agreement; and “it also develope… and gives” shifts inconsistently between verb forms. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction, as in “travelling became easier in other country.” Review agreement, articles, and the structure of participial phrases, then proofread for punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
