Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, some people think that the main reason for learning foregin language was to work or travel in foregin country while other think that this is not only the main reason for learning foregin language and this language learning issue has become a widely debated topic around the world. While some people think that this is a good idea and some think that it can cause problem. In my opinion, the advantages of this are greater than the disadvantages and i will disscuss both sides below.

On one hand, some people think that this is not a good idea. The main reason for this beleive was the foreign language is not only for travel and work it has many other benefits and use. So thinking that its main purpose is only for travel and work is not good at all. Because of this a number of people was worried about the effects it may have society and family life. That is why mostly people do not accept and support this idea in thier daily lives.

However, there is also another side to consider. Many people including my self believe that this is very beneficial.I personally support this view because of the reason, learning foregin language has many benefits it is helpful in communication and also to deals with foregin as well. For instance students and working people has also benefited from this in many ways. This show how this was beneficial and practical for the live of modern people today.

In conclusion, Although both views have some truth. I personally believe that the positive side is stronger. If people use it wisely and carefully it will bring more good results the bad ones. I hope government and individual work together for the sucessfull future for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response recognises that the question asks for two views and an opinion, and it gives a personal position: “I personally support this view.” However, the discussion does not clearly explain the view that language learning is mainly for travel or work. Instead, the first body paragraph argues that language learning has other benefits, while the second gives only brief, general claims about communication and usefulness. The opening also introduces “advantages” and “disadvantages,” which does not accurately frame the two positions in the prompt. Examples such as students and working people benefiting are mentioned but not explained. To address the task more fully, explain each view directly, support each with a specific example, and maintain a clear, relevant opinion throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “On one hand” and “However,” and a conclusion. These paragraph breaks help the reader identify the main stages of the essay. However, the overall progression is unclear because the first body paragraph does not present the travel-and-work view, and the contrast between the paragraphs is therefore difficult to follow. Linking phrases such as “Because of this” and “That is why” do not make the relationship between the claims clear. The conclusion repeats the opinion but adds a government-and-individuals recommendation that has not been developed earlier. Improve cohesion by assigning each body paragraph one of the prompt’s views and using clear references and transitions to connect supporting reasons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The essay uses a basic range of topic-related vocabulary, including “foreign language,” “communication,” “benefits,” and “modern people,” so the general subject is understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “this language learning issue” is vague, “deals with foreign” is incomplete, and “bring more good results the bad ones” is not a natural comparison. Spelling errors such as “foregin,” “beleive,” and “sucessfull” are also noticeable. Build a more precise range for discussing purposes and outcomes, and check spelling and common word combinations. This would make the argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and subordinate clauses, for example, “While some people think that this is a good idea and some think that it can cause problem.” However, the range remains limited, and attempts at complex sentences are often inaccurate. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “other think” and “a number of people was worried,” missing or incorrect articles in “in foreign country,” and verb-form problems in “it is helpful … and also to deals.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “Although both views have some truth.” These errors recur and can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled clauses, checking agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation.
