Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people thinks that the learning a foreign language is the key for gaining a job and applying for studies. Some tourists also gain familarity with a particular language to visit a place. It reduces the communication barriers and help them to easily gain access to their favourite places. While some people argue that skills can also be increased by learning a language. In this essay, i will discuss the both views and also give my opinion in the end.

Nowadays, Learning a language is mandatory for the approval of a visa from a embassy. Likewise, Germany has made a german language necessary for applying to a work visa. Ielts is also necessary for study visa in Canada, Australia, UK and USA. There are a certain criteria and requirement which must be meet by a candidate to qualify to a visa.

While, Some people considered learning a language for understanding the cultures and traditions of a country. Mostly tourists learn language when they go to a trip or tour. Although, it is not necessarily for an individual to learn a language while going to a tour. Some people enhance their language skills and add it in their cirriculum vitae. Mostly people learn arabic language and they want to know the meaning of quran. They think that this language is important part of a Islam and it is close to ever muslim. It develop a sense of faith and belief in Islam.

In my opinion, learning a language has several benefits, it opens a door to many foreign country and also develops better understanding of a particular country. It also enhances communication and reduce the barriers for connecting to different peoples.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views by discussing language for work, study and travel, then giving your opinion that it has wider benefits. The examples of visa requirements and learning Arabic to understand the Quran are relevant, and your final paragraph makes your general position clear. However, the discussion is only partial: the first view is mainly illustrated through visa rules, while the broader reasons beyond travel and work are listed rather than explained. The opening also introduces “applying for studies,” which is not clearly connected to the task’s contrast. Develop each view with a reason and a specific example, and state your opinion more directly in the introduction as well as the conclusion. This would make the response more fully address and support all parts of the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly separate the two views. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For example, the first body paragraph moves from visa approval to Germany and then to IELTS without explaining how these examples connect or distinguishing language requirements from other application criteria. The second paragraph shifts from culture to tourism, CVs and religion, so its central focus becomes difficult to follow. Linking words such as “Likewise,” “While” and “Although” are used, but some transitions are awkward or do not show the relationship between ideas accurately. Organise each body paragraph around one main reason, then explain and illustrate it; use clear references and transitions to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “communication barriers,” “visa,” “cultures and traditions,” and “curriculum vitae.” These choices help convey the main subject, and some phrases show an attempt to express broader benefits. However, the range is limited in places and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors reduce precision: “gain familarity,” “go to a trip,” “a particular language,” and “close to ever muslim” are unclear or unnatural. Capitalisation and spelling are also inconsistent, as in “german,” “cirriculum” and “arabic.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “become familiar with a language,” “go on a trip,” and “is important to Muslims.” More precise vocabulary would help distinguish cultural, educational and practical motivations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “Although” and a relative clause in “requirements which must be meet by a candidate.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to process. Examples include “Some people thinks,” “it reduces … and help them,” “a embassy,” and “which must be meet”; these show problems with subject–verb agreement, articles and verb forms. The sentence beginning “While, Some people considered…” is also incomplete or incorrectly connected, and the final paragraph joins independent ideas with a comma. Practise checking agreement and verb forms, and build complex sentences with a complete main clause and accurate punctuation.
