Student answer (Band 6.0)
Foreign language has been a popular interest by people nowadays. Some people says that the main aim of learning this is for the benefits of travelling and working. On the other hand, critics argue that this shouldn't be the sole purpose of leaning foreign language.
Learning foreign language is an important aspect when travelling and working. Being able to learn a specific language from a different country is very respectful because you get to talk to them in a way they can understand you. For example, learning a new language for work is essential as this add extra points to business partners. This is helpful in negotiating and developing partners around the globe. It would be easier for a person to learn and speak the language where they'll be going to because they can adapt easily to their surroundings. However, I think this shouldn't be the only reason why individuals learn foreign language.
On the other hand, learning foreign language can be an interest or a hobby of a person. Some people are interested in learning the language of other countries because of their curiosity in their culture and history. For example, people who watch korean dramas are willing to learn their language because they are intrigued of this new language. Schools also incorporate this because students can gain new information, knowledge and skills, as this will be useful for them in the future.
In conclusion, foreign language can be useful to everyone and to anything. I believe there shouldn't be arguments that the main purpose of learning this is for work or for travel. People should learn foreign language on whatever reason they want. They can enjoy learning new things because they are interested to and not because what others say.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and make your position clear: travel and work are useful reasons to learn a language, but they should not be the only ones. The examples about communicating with business partners and learning Korean through dramas are relevant and help illustrate the discussion. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that language learning “add[s] extra points to business partners” is unclear, and the educational benefit of studying languages is mentioned without showing specifically how it helps students. Develop each main idea with a clearer explanation or a concrete example, and make the comparison between practical and personal reasons more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “On the other hand,” “However,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the central position remains consistent. This meets the lower-band expectation for coherent organisation and also shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. At times, though, links feel formulaic, and references such as “this” in “learning this” are not fully precise. Some ideas within paragraphs also move quickly—for example, the work example shifts from business partners to adapting to surroundings. Use clearer links between these points and make pronoun references explicit to strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss language learning, including “negotiating,” “culture and history,” “curiosity,” and “adapt.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, which keeps expression from being consistently clear and precise. For example, “add extra points to business partners” does not convey a clear meaning, while “developing partners” is an awkward collocation. “Foreign language” is also repeated frequently, and “leaning” appears where “learning” is intended. Build a wider set of natural collocations for education, employment, and cultural interest, and check word forms and spelling during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because you get to talk to them” and a relative clause in “people who watch Korean dramas.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “Some people says” and “this add,” missing or incorrect articles in phrases such as “learning foreign language,” and the awkward construction “not because what others say.” These errors do not generally prevent the reader from following your argument, but they reduce accuracy. Practise checking agreement, articles, and clause structure, and vary sentence patterns while keeping each sentence controlled.
