Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a position in the opening: “i partially agree with both views.” The essay also gives relevant reasons, including that language can help travellers ask for directions and that learning can improve communication and confidence. However, the discussion is only partially developed. The travel example is difficult to follow, and the point about work is mentioned but not supported with a specific explanation or example. Your own opinion is present, but “both views are essential” does not clearly explain how you weigh them. To strengthen the response, explain each reason more fully and make your position more precise, for example by stating why language learning has value beyond travel and employment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs introduced by “firstly” and “secondly,” and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the two views. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes unclear, particularly in the travel example, where the sequence from locating a place to needing help and receiving directions is difficult to track. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “they” and “this” do not always make their meaning clear. The conclusion repeats earlier points rather than bringing them together. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to its main idea; also check that pronouns refer unambiguously to the people or ideas intended.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “foreign language,” “communication,” “confidence,” and “personality,” and you attempt some less common expressions such as “foreign tongue.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes meaning less clear. For example, “studding” does not express the intended idea, “improving their self” is unnatural, and “brighten their personality” is not an appropriate collocation. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “peoples” and “destiny” where “destination” is intended. Build a more accurate set of topic phrases and check spelling and collocations so your ideas can be expressed more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the essay’s main points can generally be understood. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “some people also learned” shifts tense unnecessarily, while “some are learn” and “this increase” show problems with verb forms and subject–verb agreement. Several sentences also run together or lack clear punctuation, such as the long explanation beginning “because it helps to understand.” Use a reliable pattern of subject + verb + object, check singular and plural agreement, and separate complete ideas with full stops. Practising accurate complex sentences with “because” and “which” would help you express relationships more clearly.
