Student answer (Band 5.5)

Language is a vital part of day to day communication. Different counties have different languages and there are many reason to learn new languages. Among these reasons, travel or work purpose is the most common although I don't think these are the only reasons.

During travelling, the knowing of the native language helps a lot. While travelling in Japan and China, I felt that. Knowing the language during travel overcomes the gap between the travellers and local people. Traveller can closely know the local cultures, laws and can make new friends around the world. But there are lot of countries in the world, so it is almost impossible to learn every languages. On the other hand learning a new language for working purpose in another country can improve the chances for the better profession.

Although there are many other reasons someone should learn a foreing language. It is a useful hobby for someone who want to make his / her time meaningful. Study found that learning a new language helps to make new bridge between neurons. It strength the memory and slow down the brain ageing. Another significant reason is to help out the foreign travellers in the own country and it can be good source of income in the tourist places. Sometimes it become harder for a foreigner to understand the local languages and in this case someone who know the language can help out. There are some wonderful movies and dramas in other language. By learning those foreign language can enchance the quality of entertainment and make the moment more enjoyable.

In my opinion, travel to or work in a foreign country maybe the primary reasons for learning a foreign language but these are not the only reasons that one should learn a foreign language.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and state a clear opinion: travel and work are common motives, but “these are not the only reasons.” The travel paragraph gives relevant benefits, including understanding local culture and making friends, while the other-reasons paragraph adds cognitive benefits, helping tourists, and enjoying foreign films. These examples show a relevant response to the task. However, the work-related view is only briefly mentioned as improving career prospects, and some other points—such as the claim about memory and brain ageing—would benefit from explanation or a specific example. Develop these ideas more evenly and make the reasoning behind each example clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on travel and work, a paragraph on other motives, and a concluding opinion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “On the other hand,” “Although,” and “Another significant reason.” However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The paragraph beginning “Although there are many other reasons” is not a complete sentence, and “But there are lot of countries” shifts abruptly from travel benefits to the difficulty of learning languages. Use complete topic sentences and connect each supporting point explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea. Clearer referencing would also help readers follow who “someone” refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “native language,” “local cultures,” “profession,” “memory,” and “source of income,” which helps express several distinct reasons for language learning. Some less common expressions are attempted, but inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling reduce precision: “overcomes the gap” is awkward in this context, “make new bridge between neurons” is unclear, and “enchance” is misspelled. There is also repetition of “language” and “learn a new language.” Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would make your ideas easier to understand without changing their meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and more complex structures, including “While travelling in Japan and China, I felt that” and the conditional-style explanation beginning “Sometimes it become harder…”. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “someone who want” and “It strength the memory,” plural and article errors in “there are lot of countries” and “every languages,” and an incomplete clause beginning “Although there are many other reasons.” The final sentence also needs a clearer structure around “maybe the primary reasons.” Review agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence completeness, then proofread to catch these errors while retaining your varied sentence forms.
