Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is no denying the fact that learning a foreign language can be good for different aspects. While it is a commonly held belief that traveling or working in a foreign country are the only reasons for learning a foreign language. There is also an argument that there is more reasons to learn different languages. This eassay will analyse the topic from both point of views and express my opinion.
On one hand, learning the language of a foreign country that you are traveling to or applying to a work there can be helpfull and can make the experience more enjoiable. In other words, it can help you understand the culture of the country and the way to communicate with people. In addition, in work enviorment it can make you feel that you fit in and prevent the feeling of being missed out.
On the other hand, these are not the only reasons to learn a new language, many researches and studies illustrated that bilingual or multilingual people have more ability to focus and achieve higher results in different aspects than monolingual people. It is also possible to say that learning a foreign language can be done without the need to travel to a new country. Moreover, learning a new language can be for self improvment resoans or to have the ability to speak a language that you like. For instance, many people learn the langauge of their favourite singer or actor because they like the way it sounds.
In conclusion, there are no easy answers to this question. On balance, however, I tend to believe that there is a lot of reasons to learn a foreign language and it is not only for the reasons of traveling or working.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear overall opinion: travel and work are useful reasons, but they are not the only ones. The first body paragraph explains how language can help with cultural understanding and workplace inclusion, while the second adds cognitive benefits and personal interest, including the example of learning a favourite singer’s language. These are relevant points, but some are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that multilingual people “achieve higher results in different aspects” is broad and would be stronger with a specific explanation or example. Your conclusion restates your position, though it could summarise the main reasons more precisely. Develop each key idea with clearer support to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some links are mechanical, and the opening sentence’s “While” clause is left as a fragment before the next sentence begins. The second body paragraph also moves quickly from research claims to learning without travel and then to personal enjoyment, so the relationship between these points could be made clearer. Use linking phrases that show whether an idea is an example, a consequence, or an additional reason, and ensure each paragraph develops one central line of thought.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “bilingual or multilingual,” “monolingual,” “communicate,” and “self-improvement,” which helps discuss both practical and personal reasons for language learning. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations reduce control: examples include “eassay,” “helpfull,” “enjoiable,” “enviorment,” and “missed out.” Phrases such as “applying to a work” and “different aspects” are also not idiomatic or precise in context. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they make the writing less fluent. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations, especially for work, travel, and the benefits of language learning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a relative clause in “the country that you are traveling to” and a contrast structure in the introduction. Meaning is generally clear, but some sentence structures and agreement patterns are inaccurate. The opening “While it is a commonly held belief…” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence, and “there is more reasons” should use a plural verb. In “can be helpfull and can make,” the passive construction is not formed correctly; similarly, “applying to a work there” has an incomplete grammatical pattern. The final sentence also has a subject–verb agreement issue. Review clause boundaries, singular/plural agreement, and verb patterns, then proofread for punctuation.
