Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You introduce both views and give examples of reasons beyond travel or work, such as learning history and running a business. However, the discussion is only partial: the non-travel reasons are briefly listed rather than explained, and your own position is not clearly distinguished from the points you present. The conclusion says language learning is “crucial for every” person and necessary before travelling, but does not clearly weigh the two views. The response is also 244 words, six words below the 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each view with a specific explanation or example, and state your opinion directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Additionally” and “To sum up” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is difficult to follow in places. The sentence beginning “Although there can be many reason…” repeats the previous point and then shifts to personal reasons without a clear contrast or explanation. Some links are also unclear, as in “while first arguments always remain first.” Paragraphing is present, but the ideas within paragraphs need a more logical sequence. Give each paragraph one clear purpose, use linking expressions to show the relationship between ideas, and avoid repeating the same claim in different wording.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “cultures,” “survive,” “enhancing knowledge” and “businesses,” and the reader can generally identify your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the message less clear. For example, “get informations around world” and “commanding any foreign language” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “command” is not the right verb for learning a language. Spelling errors such as “langauge,” “Addittionaly” and “taht” are also noticeable. Build a more accurate set of topic phrases and check spelling, word forms and collocations when proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a clause beginning “Although,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation. Examples include “Some people argue … other say,” “There are several benefits … Firstly it will,” and “it depends on personal reasons ,Few people are learning it.” These sentences need clearer clause boundaries and more consistent grammatical forms. Capitalisation and punctuation are also unreliable, particularly after full stops and around commas. Practise constructing accurate complex sentences, then check subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries before submitting.
