Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views: the travel-and-work paragraph gives practical reasons, while the next paragraph introduces cultural, cognitive and online benefits. Your opinion is also suggested in the opening, where you argue that language learning has advantages beyond going overseas. However, the discussion is only partial: the travel example is difficult to follow, and the other benefits are mostly listed rather than explained or supported. The conclusion is missing, so your final position is not fully reinforced. The response also contains 187 words, below the required 250, which limits how fully you can develop the task. To improve, explain each main reason with a clear example and add a concise conclusion that directly answers the question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic paragraph structure, and the contrast between practical motives and wider benefits is recognisable. Signposts such as “On the other hand,” “Firstly,” and “finally” help indicate the direction of the discussion. However, progression is uneven: the opening sentence is unclear, and the travel example becomes a long, confusing sequence rather than a clearly ordered explanation. “On the other” does not clearly signal the shift, and the final paragraph ends abruptly without a conclusion. Some ideas are joined with full stops or commas where clearer sentence boundaries would help. Organise each paragraph around one main point, explain it in a logical sequence, and use linking phrases accurately rather than relying on a short list of transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “motivators,” “culture understanding,” “cognitive development,” and “bilingualism,” and you refer to practical communication and online access. This shows an effort to use topic-specific language. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are frequent enough to make parts of the response difficult to understand, particularly in the example about ordering food. Phrases such as “a several important thing” and “in original form” are not natural in context, and “wide-ranging” is incomplete in the opening. Aim for accurate, familiar collocations before trying more ambitious expressions. Proofread spelling carefully and choose precise phrases such as “cultural understanding” and “access information.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a sentence beginning “while others” and a list of benefits linked with “and.” However, the range is limited, and attempts at longer structures are often faulty. For example, “Many people says” has subject–verb disagreement, while “a tourist in Italy had taken the order and cannot speak” shifts awkwardly between verb forms and does not form a clear sentence. Missing or incorrect articles and sentence boundaries also affect readability, as in “On the other, they are a several…” and the run-on sequence in the travel example. Practise building accurate sentences with one clear subject and verb, then connect them using subordinate clauses. Check agreement, articles, tense consistency and punctuation during revision.
