Student answer (Band 5.0)

Certain individual believe that learning a different language is mainly for travelling or work in aboard, whereas others counter-view and state that foreign offers different benefits beyond travel or work. Therefore, prior to my decision, both the view are elaborated in the following paragraph.

Discussing the former view, the foremost argument put forward by the supporters is that helps the tourists communicate with local people. In addition to make it easier to ask about the direction, food, places or public transport. Furthermore, learning the foreign language reduce the misunderstanding and make travel more convenient. For instance, when an Indian guy visit France and they know the basic French language it make easier to communicate with other people and make there journey more comfortable. Hence, learning a different language helps to communicate and reduce misunderstanding.

On the contrary, the proponents of the latter notion advocate that allows to people learn about the various traditions, culture and lifestyle of the people as well as build friendship among different background. However, it makes more simplify to connect with international communities online. For example, students learn English can read English-language articles and communicate with English students without replying on translator. As a result it reduce the misunderstanding and improve the bond between them.

In conclude and offer my opinion, I would firmly bolster the first view easier communication with local people, second statement reduce misunderstanding rather than the understanding culture and improve bond with them

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views by explaining that language learning helps travellers communicate and that it can support cultural understanding and international friendships. The examples about an Indian visitor in France and students communicating online are relevant, but they are brief and do not fully develop the reasons. Your own position is difficult to identify: the conclusion refers to both statements but does not clearly say which view you support or explain why. The response also falls short of the required minimum length, leaving limited space to develop the discussion. To strengthen the response, state your opinion directly in the introduction and conclusion, then extend each main point with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “On the contrary,” and “As a result” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the opening of the second-view paragraph (“advocate that allows to people learn…”) makes the connection between the claim and its explanation difficult to follow. Some links are also repetitive, particularly the repeated references to reducing misunderstanding. The conclusion does not clearly resolve the discussion. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main point, connect examples explicitly to that point, and make the final paragraph a clear summary of your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “foreign language,” “traditions,” “lifestyle,” “international communities,” and “misunderstanding.” This gives the response enough language to communicate its general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “work in aboard,” “counter-view,” “make more simplify,” and “replying on translator.” These expressions can make the reader pause or infer your intended meaning. Aim for natural combinations such as “work abroad,” “take the opposing view,” “make it easier,” and “rely on a translator.” Vary repeated words such as “people” and “communicate,” and check word forms and spelling when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas,” “when,” and “as well as.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to understand. For example, “the foremost argument … is that helps” lacks a clear subject, while “learning the foreign language reduce” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “when an Indian guy visit France and they know … it make easier,” the verb forms and pronoun references are not controlled. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise building complete sentences with an explicit subject and correctly matched verb, then proofread agreement, articles, and punctuation.
