Student answer (Band 5.0)

Languages are considered as a medium of communication and it is believed by experts that to know more than one foreign languages is a healthy habit for the brain. I completely believe that learning a foreign language is an essential thing because it will help to grow in multiple ways.

The most concerning and the challenging part, which has now become a trend is just to learn foriegn language in order to travel to work or to settle in an another country. People tends to forget that learning another language can be useful in many ways. Understanding an international language can also helps your brain to memorize things and it lead to development of brain cells. For instance, a child who has learned more than 3 overseas languages was able to understand complex mathematics faster compared to others. Overall, learning more languages can be helpful in multiple ways and it is a regular process.

Moreover, there is a strong reason to believe that, an international language should only be learnt when there is an oppourtunity to travel. This time can be utilized in learning another technical skills. For example, a student who has knowledge of more than 5 foreign languages was not even able to solve the basic mathematical problem because he has used most of his time in learning multiple international language. Since, it is believed by many people that this should be done only in spare time or if there is an oppourtunity to travel.

In conclusion, learning is a constructive habit and it should be done regularly specially in free time, an individual must focus on learning foreign languages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear general opinion that learning languages is valuable beyond travel, and you include examples to support your discussion. However, the two views are not addressed with equal clarity. The first body paragraph explains possible cognitive benefits, but the opposing view is presented as a reason to learn a language only when travel is possible, then shifts to the claim that language study may take time away from technical skills. This does not fully explain why people see travel or overseas work as the main purpose. The examples about children and mathematics are also asserted rather than explained, and the conclusion does not clearly restate your position in relation to both views. Develop each side directly and support the examples with clearer reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, so the reader can identify its broad structure. However, progression between ideas is not consistently clear. The second paragraph begins with “Moreover” but introduces the opposing view, while “Since” starts a sentence that does not connect grammatically or logically to the preceding point. The two examples about language learning and mathematics also appear to contradict each other without explanation. Repeated phrases such as “multiple ways” and “learning another language” make the development feel repetitive. Use topic sentences that signal each viewpoint, connect examples explicitly to the claim they support, and ensure each paragraph advances one clear line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “medium of communication,” “constructive habit” and “opportunity,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There is also an attempt to use more formal language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “grow in multiple ways,” “an another country,” and “technical skills” in this context. Repetition of “foreign language,” “international language” and “multiple ways” limits the range. Spelling errors, including “foriegn” and “oppourtunity,” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, explain that language learning can support cognitive development rather than saying it “lead[s] to development of brain cells.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “because,” “which” and “compared to,” and the overall message can usually be followed. However, errors occur frequently in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction. Examples include “People tends to forget,” “can also helps,” and “it lead to development”; these should be “People tend to forget,” “can also help,” and “it leads to the development.” The phrase “in an another country” also has an article error, and “Since, it is believed…” is an incomplete or awkwardly punctuated sentence. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and make sure each sentence has a complete, logically connected main clause.
